Leave the house more

It’s a simple thing, but since I can work from home I don’t end up leaving the house much. I live in the suburbs, but that means there’s space to ride my bike. In my ideal life, I ride my folding bike to the subway before it’s hot out, work in my office, take a break to go to the gym so I can be more productive afterwards, and leave the office while still feeling relatively refreshed. I’m going to work on doing that at least 3 times per week.

So far, this week I rode my bike to the subway once, but didn’t go to the gym that day.

i’ve been going out a lot lately
working outside the house,
going out on the town,
walking to the park,
exploring the city
so i’ll mark this as done
for now
but i’ll keep an eye out to make sure i don’t backslide

Well... 23 months ago

the computer just ate my real post about this, but yes! I did accomplish it and more. In fact, I think this is the first “real” New Year’s resolution that I’ve followed through for a whole year and really… done.

When I first decided on this resolution, I was working at home and never left my studio except for lunch, dinner and laundry. Pretty depressing, no matter how much I like my house. Now, I have a job outside my house and get out every day. It’s a relief to get home. I’ve also used this goal as an excuse to gather people together to go see museum exhibits and even Governor’s Island. I’ve also travelled a bunch this year, even outside my 50 states jaunts.

I was very good at staying out of the house last week! :D
And this week has started pretty nicely as well,
my class had a little evening event called Svenska Natten and it was fun to spend time with them.
(Though I did think it was pretty peculiar that basically none of them realized that I had a blond wig on – instead they just thought that I had yet again changed my hair. :D)

Go out, girl 2 years ago

I haven’t been too outgoing lately. :/
I’ve just gone to university by bus, perhaps went grocery shopping a few times and then pretty much just come straight back home. I’ve been tired and unsocial, I haven’t even seen my friends that much.
This needs to change. I’ve always been a “home mouse” as my mum likes to call it, but something has to happen with this. I need to distract myself, keep myself busy with nice things so that I wouldn’t brood as much as I have been brooding this past month or so.

Tonight I went for a short walk, my mother suggested it after I had started crying while we were on the phone. The walk did make me feel a bit better, not a whole lot but every little thing counts.
It was also nice to see my friend Ansku, she came over and left for a party with my room mate about two hours ago. I probably could have gone with them but I just didn’t feel like it, I’m tired and sick-ish and frustratingly tied to a book. (Plus: I’m not into girls so maybe a gay party wouldn’t have been exactly my place. :D)

I'm debating... 2 years ago

checking this one off. It’s my resolution, but I made it when I was working from home and getting cabin fever. Now I leave home nearly every day for work and the gym. I’ve definitely accomplished it, but I feel like I’m cheating at my resolution if I don’t follow through with it for a year…

Besides, the spirit of the thing was to do more interesting things outside my house, not just leave the house for simple daily tasks.

this has been going ok,
haven’t been doing it a regularly as i want to
but i’ve been going rowing twice a week
which is a start
i think i’ll start trying to work outside the house more
on a regular basis,
then i can also check out cafes
and see new areas of the city

working outside the house
the change of locale
is good for my motivation
if i had a wireless device hooked up to my computer
i could really work anywhere
that might be nice too.
