I’m a member of the Sierra Club and stay on top of various petitions and I try to do as much as I can to aid in the fight to preserve our natural environment. On top of that I always inform my friends of things going on and I always make sure people understand the importance of ecological footprints. I’m doing as much as I can to make my surroundings friendlier to the environment.
Wildlife is something that is so important to me. Every day my heart breaks when I hear of another animal becoming endangered. Today, however, there was good news! The Bald Eagle is no longer endangered! This made me happy, but at the same time somewhat sad. Is the reason the Bald Eagle got so much attention because it’s our National bird? I sure hope not. I think the world needs to take a much closer look at what we’re doing to the world around us.
I know that mass extinctions are a part of history, but I’d like to think that I’m part of the fight to stop it. I hate the idea of waking up one day fifty years from now knowing that the most beautiful animals are extinct and only survive in zoos. THAT is a reality that I do not want to face.
So, I’m crossing this off my list, but this will be something that I continue to stress for the rest of my life.
