How I did it: I have a friend who is also a realtor, and he found all the places for me to look at. I finally weighed the pros and cons of the ones I liked, and chose one! I'm both happy and sad about the purchase. My mom has been pushing me forever to buy a place, so I kind of feel like I did it for her. I was also in a bad living situation at the time, so I wasn't sure what other options I had but to keep bouncing around from one temporary rental to … Read how I did it…
How I did it: Looked at different suburbs within my price range to decide on where I wanted to buy. If you can't afford to buy where you want to live, accept the fact that you can't afford to live where you want just yet! Buy something affordable, and plan to upgrade in the future. You have to start somewhere, and the beginning is a good place :) I spent about a year trying to decide where to buy, because I didn't want to move to a cheaper area, but th… Read how I did it…

How I did it: Moving back to my parents place to save money helped a lot. That helped me to pay off debts I had at the time, go on a big holiday, and then save for a deposit.I also subscribed to property search websites, where each day I would get an email with a list of property search results on apartments that met my criteria. It was motivating to get these emails because it was a reminder everyday on staying focused on what you want. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I moved home from college and moved in with my parents while I looked for places. I didn't just take the first option that came along. I talked to family and friends for advice and found a place that I could afford. Read how I did it…

I’ve had an offer accepted and have applied for a mortgage. I’m just waiting to hear that it’s all gone through ok now and then I will officially be a home-owner! Yay!
Make a list of requirements and “nice to haves”
Set a budget.
Organize our finances (separate goal)
Pre-view some apartments in areas where we’re interested
Refine requirements

I suppose I just feel like owning a place, something I can call my own, makes me feel like I am really taking care of myself (or ourselves, since I’m married). That we have a grounded place in the world. I can do whatever I want to the place—paint, artworks, etc etc…and it’s okay.
