Its great fun, be sure to go when the light lasts through the day, and keep climbing, when you think you’ve finished you haven’t, just keep plugging away

I always thought when I was a child it was an impossible thing to do, and then I found out about Everest and other mountains, but for me it would still be a challenge.

i did it! and it was great!

we went up the PYG Path, which was beautiful and rugged, we walked through clouds and it really felt like a mountain underneath us. it was a shame that about 1/2 way up the visibility reduced to very little, but the physical effort was exhilerating, worth it, and not as tuff as i’d expected!

the top was very windy, very cold, and rather busy! i was quite surprised to see a cement mixer up there (building works on the cafe). still, we got the obligatory group shot around the plynth at the top – ian, john, catherine, marie and i.

the rest had wizzed off, didnt even stop to wait for us once, even though marie was barely coping with the effort. so ian stayed with her, and john and i walked at our injury-induced pace sometimes a little infront, but always stopping regulary for them. we got a call from graham when they were near the top, and discovered that catherine and sophie (aged 14) werent with them! they assumed they were with us – it is very naughty to wander off without all of your group, especially in those conditions, and during a TEAM building exercise!

We came down the Llanberis path, but marie couldnt cope so got the train! it was plesant once we’d come through the clouds, but sophie turned on her ankle, so we had to go quite slow. a cup of tea at the cafe was most welcome, and down we plodded. of course, the last, tarmacked bit, was the most steep and tough, and then we were in the village and drinking a much-relished pint of Hobgoblin in the pub.

we’d left at 10.05 and at the peak, ian had guessed we’d be back for 5.10 – and we were! my foot? well, it did swell up again, and im pleased i used poles, and am thankful for pain-killers! i’m very glad i did it, and could have gone on further! the only problem, which walk or mountain next?

so we leave this afternoon for the mountains... 2 years ago

and i think i’ve got everything i need – apart from super fitness and a well foot! i bought walking poles yesterday, as they should help take some of the strain (and they were on buy one get one free, plus student discount!). now just to decide whether to wear propper walking shirt, or a tshirt? (and figure out how well my foot is, of course)

i’d kept up the exercise, then my foot swelled up. it could be for many reasons, but the doctor politely asked if i could get the money back for my snowdon trip! he doesnt think it would be sensible to make it, especially if i keep training this week. and if i do, bodyboarding in newquay in 2 weeks wont happen instead. grrr

done! 2 years ago

was amazing! we had the perfect weather for it and reached the summit around lunchtime. amazing views and worth all the hard work
