It was great fun, everybody came dressed up and we played Roulette, Poker and Black Jack all night long. Although it was with fake money only, people where eager to win. I gave a symbolic prize to the people who won most that night, that seemed to encourage everybody. :)

I dreamt up a crazy 30th birthday party for myself and my friends that involved a singing polar bear, a friend’s band, 1-minute speeches, 1-question interviews, tshirts, hot air balloons, a raffle, and all of my favorite people in Seattle (plus a few from out of town), and somehow it all came together and worked. Last minute special touches included an albatross painting, a pocketful of drawings, a bacon cake, a secret drink (the hot air balloon), and easy cheese. Pictures are here.
Thank you to the birthday party board of directors for helping me pull it off, and thank you to everyone that came and made the party happen. Let’s throw another one soon.

I’ve asked six of my favorite people who I consider to be the brightest minds in my immediate social circle to join my “board of directors” for this event. I want to get at least three people “on board” in order to help make this as crazy as possible.
A couple ideas I have so far (I won’t do all of them, or even necessarily any, but I have to start somewhere):- I am looking into having it at the Rendezvous’s Jewelbox Theater... not sure how much it costs, but it’s supposed to be fairly cheap.
- I think it’ll be an open birthday party… one that’s advertised with posters with some kind of twist.
- I think I’d like to have a live band, a movie projected on the wall, art from local artists, a poetry reading, and maybe a mini-fashion show.
- Post-party breakfast for a select few.
- Interactivity (maybe stickers that say “My best idea ever is…” with a fill in the blank).
- Vladimir the Bear
- Karaoke
- Humiliation
- What else?
Ideally it would be the best thing ever. Is that too much to ask?
Still quite a few months out (15 or so!) but since it has stiff competition with all the prior birthdays, figured I should start thinking about it now. (That said, my 29th involves houseboats on Lake Mead, so hell. Going to have to REALLY compete.)
