finish a triathlon

I’ve missed this for 2008; I’ll have to shoot for next year. But I have signed up for the local duathlon sponsored jointly by the running club and bicycle club. Did it once before, and it’s a blast. It’ll be just a few days after I return home from vacation, though – so I’ll probably be pretty pathetic!

I’ve found out the West Lake triathlon is full (and coming too fast, anyway) I did some research into the DeWitt Crossroads triathlon. It’s date has been bumped back to August 2 this year, and I may sign up.

Finally went swimming, which was fun! But it’s all coming back to me now, why I don’t often do the front crawl – I am somewhat claustrophobic, and that stroke just freaks me out if I do it for long. Swam for an hour doing mostly side stroke and back stroke.

I was told by a friend who’s already registered that doing a different stroke is fine though, thankfully. But apparently I need to register soon, since they have a limited number of participants which fills up fast. Hopefully tomorrow.

about which triathlon would be best, from another person at the murder mystery weekend I attended. I also had a co-worker give me her swim pass card with a bunch of unused punches, but I don’t think it’s transferable. I need to start the swim training soon …

who has already registered for the largest local triathlon, which is apparently June 14. Yikes! I’ve not been swimming in years, so I’d better get over and buy a swimming pass soon. Either that, or be fated to do the wussy one in July.

checking into how to buy the pass for swimming at the local junior college pool. Now all I have to do is swallow my pride and actually wear a swimsuit in front of other humans …

Starting to spend more time on the bike, too.

When I finish my swimming lessons I’ll feel qualified to enter the Danskin Triathlon in September.

Well I had several TIAs and meningitis last year and continue to have seizures that result in annoying vertigo which make bikes out of the questions, not to mention driving…I am going to have to put a triathlon on the back burner for a year but keep training with the runs and walks and swims

to a bike path friend today who gave me the scoop on not only the other local triathlon, but a good (read: cheap) place to go swimming if I decide to train for this next year – our local junior college.

2 possibilities for next year, both of which are events which would probably be “doable” for me. One in Galena, which I saw written up in some local publication and will have to research further. The other I heard about at a party Tuesday night, from the mayor of tiny DeWitt, Iowa. They have one out there the 2nd weekend every July which consists of swimming (don’t know the distance), a 15-mile bike ride and 10k run. Very manageable distances. Though it’s not exactly Ironman in nature, at least I could say I’ve done one!
