How I did it: I did a beginners' triathlon: The Day at the Beach triathlon in Hermosa Beach, which includes swimming 1/4 mile in the ocean, 10 miles on the bike and a 3 mile run. The organizers and competitors were extremely supportive! I felt very safe the whole time, and I really appreciated the encouragement.
