How to visit Hollywood
It made me
wanna leave!
 "Less exciting than I dreamed of."
How I did it: We drove from Tucson, AZ to San Diego, CA and then up to Hollywood.....We stayed at the Holiday Inn on the walk of Fame. FYI Good area to stay and a quick walk. We only stayed two days...Night life was expensive. 9 dollars for a shot at 4 different places we went to. Best place was a pub called the Cat and Fiddle...British place. Great prices and stayed open late. Make sure to get your drunken mid nite snack at Mel's Dinner. Don't waste your time with the Hollywood sign. Even at the observatory its extremely far away. Lessons & tips: Be careful where you stay...some areas can be very ruff. Don't expect anyone to give you directions because they expect money if they even know where you are talking about. And when someone begs you to take a picture with them they still want your money. |

if you want to go. GO! it is amazing and the hollywood sign is alot smaller than i expected. but amazing when you see it. amazing. GO!

well everyone has a dream and one of my dreams was visit Hollywood. i’ve been there and i lived there 4 months but it wasn’t like i thought, like i saw in the movies… dirty street and a lot of homeless people. people who don’t have money to come back home and a lot of rap singers on hollywood blvd selling their cds and a lot of crazy people… that is what i saw. and well, it is only my opinion but if you want to have to visit Hollywood… maybe you will see better things…

Of course, I had to visit the Whiskey-A-Go-Go, see the Chinese Theatre (and put my hands in a few cement prints), etc., take photos of the (falling) sign, and the tourist things that you would expect . . . but, I also walked the streets - just taking in the whole experience - and drove the streets—taking in the whole experience. It was amazing.
We sought out the out-of-the-way spots where the ‘locals’ go hang out, and just hung out—talked to people that live there, ate in local restaurants, got a real feel for the place, NOT the hype that you expect.
Definitely worth it IF you take the time to do it RIGHT!
