How to decorate my room by forestfox

"it cost me about £60 over 5 months but it was so worth it!!!"

How I did it: I felt bad about spending money on stuff for my room because I didn't have a lot of spare cash; but then I thought if it cheers me up it's money well spent, and it didn't have to be expensive, either. So I decided that I would buy curtains and bedsheets first because those would make the greatest impact. I found some pink buddha curtains on sale for £20 a pair in a local shop that I really, really liked so I thought I would treat myself. I'm so glad I did because they are the best thing in my room. I bought bedsheets in white and pink, which cost £12, and a couple of weeks later I bought another set with pink flowers for £9. A while after that, I bought a cream alarm clock for £3.50 and a stripy picture frame for £0.50, both from a charity shop. A few months later, I found four matching cushion covers in a charity shop for £2.50 each. After much consideration I thought I wouldn't get ones that I liked as much cheaper elsewhere so I might as well buy them now. I'm quite thrifty so I budgeted around the extra expense; if I really hadn't had any money that week I wouldn't have bought them. I finished my redecoration with a £7 peace lily from B&Q, and I found a small shelving unit with baskets that someone had left in the road for free, so I took that home and cleaned it up and it fits perfectly under my desk :)
Apart from the stuff I bought, I also used things I already had - I put up pictures of my friends and family, and colourful postcards and flyers to make a display on the wall behind my desk. I arranged my books and DVDs neatly and displayed some crafts items I made myself.

Lessons & tips: - Don't be fooled into thinking you have to go to an expensive store to get a great look for your room. Second-hand shops can have great items if you keep looking around and checking back.
- Also, you don't have to get everything at once. Start wih the biggest items (curtains, bedspread) and add the rest later on, when you have some extra cash.
- Have a look through your stuff and pull out some things you like looking at, such as funny postcards, photos, old calendars and magazine pictures. If you display them with care they can be just as good, f not better, than buying a readymade picture!

    ok so i cant completely re decorate my room but i want to personalise it so that its really interesting and shows who i am, i like all those small little things like the bits on the top of fizzy drink cans he he i just want small ideas using things like that to make my room more interesting, any ideas?

    cleaning it the other day and it still looks pristine, so now I just need to start painting it. But have no paints….or paintbrushes…..or anything, so need to get those first. Then I’m going to bribe my dad to put up some shelves so I don’t have to keep piling my books on the floor. And to finish, maybe some new posters?

    yes Im so excited that I broke hoorah into two words
    I finally got some stuff up on my walls and have turned my dresser around so that the drawers are accessible! I have my clothes in there now, with my shirts and dressy items hung up in the closet. Organized my two big organizers, one holds only bathroom style items, organized according to where they are used, and the other organizer now holds crafty type items, organized according to type of item. Must say its awfully nice to know ahead of time where something is. Not counting this as done however, as I still feel I have a way to go. There’s still things like my speakers to be dealt with…
