    Yay! 3 years ago

Today, I put the front brake assembly on my bike. Now it can be called fixed. I’ll take a trial run tonight after Steph gets home, and then I’ll put the baby seat on it.

Rear Derailleur Hanger 3 years ago

It’s here, it’s on my bike and now I have an operative fixed gear bicycle to ride. I’ll buy a brake handle and put the baby seat on the back on MONDAY, if I can. But at least I have a working bike again! Yay!!!

One thing leads to another, one broken part gets ordered and another shows its head. Well, I guess I’ll get this bike on the road before my birthday.

It seems like each little project I start lately has got an intial blast where I make tons of progress then I find that there is one little snag that will hold things up like forever before there is any growth or movement. And then suddenly, everything is solved. Well, I have come to that point again, not the everything is solved point but the infinite snag.

My bike needs something to apply tension to the chain in order to ride it as single speed, however the derailler hanger is stripped so that device will not stay on, now I have to order a new hanger. Boo!

    Messing job 3 years ago

Today I received a second tubluar and two tubes of cement in the mail. Then I proceeded to glue both tires to the rims. Now I have to wait for the cement to set and then I’ll be able to inflate the tires and put them on my bike.

The next bit of work necessary to get this bike back on the road is to connect the brake system. As I intend to have a child’s seat over the rear wheel, I will not be able to enjoy the full benefits of my fixed gear – so I have to connect a braking system. Fortunately, I am using an old road racing frame to make my city hybrid. She’ll be a fast and manueverable beast which can transport me and my bubby all over the city – no more subways! At least when it’s just the two of us.

This is highly useful. Saves you loads of cash.

Moved to a biking town. 3 years ago

My bike has been in disrepair for about a year. Didn’t have much use for it where I was. But I felt (and feel) bad about it. Bikes are awesome – fun, no gas, can go places a car can’t, no traffic jams, and great exercise. Now I’m in a place where biking is almost the norm. I want to do it for fun and to help me get back into shape.
