I’ve wanted to move to the US ever since I was a kid. Watching a great city like NYC in the movies made me fell in love with the idea of living there, which is very different from what we have here in Portugal.
Within a year, I’ll hopefully get my bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering as well as my course as a Fitness Instructor. But the problem is that until now I haven’t yet figured out how am I gonna do this… I mean, I’ve read on the internet that it is very difficult to get permission to go to the US to live and work, that sometimes people need to wait a year or longer. Besides, I do not know anyone there… Anyway, it just seems very tough, though that’s not enough to make me want to give it up.

How I did it: I decided I wanted to move here for school. So in July I started craigslisting for apartments, found one with an august 15th move in date. Got someone to drive me up in august, and found a job three weeks later. Not as hard as I expected, and cheaper than I thought (you get used to the ridiculous nyc prices pretty quickly). I love it. How I did it: I extended a vacation after finally realizing I wanted to move. I sold or gave away all of my possessions, sold my car, and packed essentials only. I brought my resume, one suit, business cards, a few changes of clothing, a black sweatsuit (for sleeping or to work out), one pair of sneakers. I didn't have any friends in the city, didn't have a job or an apartment -- all worked out just fine. I stayed in a hostel for three weeks while look… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I just decided to just go for it. I had always wanted to live in New York, but I never figured out how I would do it. Originally, I was going to wait until I got my bachelor's degree, but I decided why wait? So I just got up and left. Read how I did it…

How I did it: Here is how my move went down:When I visited in November of 1995, I had a college friend that lived in the city and provided me with a place to stay that week.On that visit, I was attending a professional conference and asked the organizer for assistance with contacts in my field that might be hiring intern. I got the internship and was able to move out and live on student loans before I was hired by that company 3 months later. I was a… Read how I did it…

I plan to spend these five years getting my degree, growing up a little bit, organizing living arrangements to move there and saving money.
I want to save at least $10 000 before December 31st, 2014.
On this day, August 16, 2009, I currently have $930 saved.

I still want to move to NYC, but things have changed in the past few months. I just moved back to ohio from hawaii and i am not financially sound, as planned. NYC is very exspensive, so i dont want to go there without back up. I have a few friends who have been very supportive and offered me a place to stay, but I dont want to move with no money, job and plan. I also been thinking about atlanta as well. But for now i,m here in ohio.
