I joined this online language learning website a few weeks ago (livemocha.com) and it’s very easy to use and very helpful. There’s alot of people there who speak both Italian and English fluently and they help out as well. :)

I am American with Italian heritage. I would like to learn the language of my ancestors as well as some of my distant Biselli relatives in Northern Italy as we speak!
- I’ve been yearning to learn a new language for quite sometime. I just have so much on my plate, I can’t seem to find the time to devote to this. (may take me awhile, but I am determined to keep it as a goal.)

Currently, I see several ways that will help me strengthen my Italian skills:
1. Set up a group study/speaking group.
2. Reread my book from last year.
3. Flashcards
4. Podcasts
5. Talk and write to myself in Italian.
6. Wean myself off of dictionaries.

I want to go to Italy someday and when I do I don’t want an interpriter I want to be able to take care of myself and if I speak the lingo that will be much easier.
carolforehand is trying to get through these books for Grad school...
Hopefully this will happen! My Daily Phrase Italian podcast is helping a lot and living in Florence this upcoming school year will surely be a step in the right direction!
...and think I will learn Russian instead…at least I want to learn the Russian alphabet to start with.
Tonight, I decided to pull out the liner notes from my Laura Pausini CD and I sang along with “Incancellabile”. Although I don’t know what the song was about (I’ll tackle the translation later this week), it felt good to first mouth the words, listening carefully to pronounciation, and then sing along with her. I’m on my way. :)
Even though this is my fifth year of italian in school, and I’m on an AP level, I can barely speak or understand it.
So now, for the first time, I’m going to attemp to do my AP homework with as little help as possible. I know I’ll still need a translator for the verb tenses but I figure trying is better than nothing, right?
