I wouldn’t say this goal is as complete as I’d like it to be. But one key concept is to get the other person talking by asking lots of questions first. Remember, they are probably not good at it either, for starters, and if they are, just go with the flow of thier questions. Pretty soon you’ll hit on common ground to talk about for a bit, and worse case scenario, they talk forever because if it’s one thing everyone loves, it’s to talk about themselves!!!

im not good at small talk lol. but then i met this guy and right off the bat nothing was awkward and we just talked! i didnt even think of things to say everything just came out how i wanted it to.
i guess its easier when you have a connection with someone
:)
and it made me think. like why is it so hard to do this with everyone else?? so the next time i just thought like look how easy it was with him. fake being that comfortable with everyone else.
AND IT WORKED!

i love meeting new people.. and hangin out with them, just im shy and suck at making small talk when you first meet someone. once i get passed that stage and they know that im not always that awkward.. then everything is fine. i just need to learn how to be better a small talk ahha. it sounds so simple, but then when you have to do it its like you run out of things to say after you compliment them or say hows it going lol.
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!

If you talk to anyone like the person sitting next to you on the bus or that cousin that you’ve always been awkward it really breaks the ice when you actually try to talk better! Random people become your friends and it’s really nice getting to know everyone around you. Empathy helps ALOT.

Im little enough to not know how to talk to other people yet (especially the opposite gender) so this would be really cool for me to talk to people in my neighborhood while i walk around or somtething, i just dont do it that much yet to be good at it.

Trusty eHow has a page with nice tips.
My favourite are :
Read everything: cookbooks, newspapers, magazines, reviews, product inserts, maps, signs and catalogues.
Converse with everyone you come across. Chat with folks unlike yourself, from seniors to teens to tourists.
Keep a journal. Write down funny stories you hear, beautiful things you see, quotes, observations, shopping lists and calls you made.
Expand your horizons.

one of my best friends is very very good at this. and when you watch a master at work (small talk) it really is impressive how to start a conversation on ANYTHING…. i have gotten alot better. and what i have found, is that just being friendly and babble about something someone will talk back about something and bingo. its just so hard to find that little ice breaker to start the conversation with someone you dont know.
i mean just today i did this. i over heard a group of marksmen and i dropped a line about the club that is around here and bingo, i was in the coversation too!
conversation.. truley is an art form that takes an artists touch
that along with experience and broad intrests
