My little basil seedlings are coming up. So adorable!

How I did it: I bought potting soil, large plastic pots, and two plants for my porch: basil and cilantro. The cilantro never really took off, but the basil has been a great boon to my kitchen. I used to fret about how quickly the basil from trader joes would blacken and go bad but we never worry about that anymore! Even once the frost hit we brought the basil inside and it's still doing well. Read how I did it…

This evening I sowed my basil seeds. It was a simple procedure, I was expecting something a bit more time consuming. I wasn’t very careful. But they will grow. Tomorrow I will pot my other herbs.
I would love to have fresh herbs in my garden in the summer months instead of having to buy them in the store. I’d like to start with basil, mint, cilantro, and scallions.

Yesterday I bought some plants. Today I found several pots underneath the house. Tomorrow I will plant the plants in the pots. I will most likely talk to the plants while they are being planted. In my mind, this will help them grow. Oh, PS- the basil. I am going to sow basil seeds. The idea is to completely grow these seeds from scratch (?) as opposed to tending the already farmers market cultivated herbs. tomorrow!
Incredible! I had somehow deleted this goal, and when I re-added it, I was able to retrieve my previous entry and cheers.
Tonight, on our flat mission to the supermarket, we finally bit the bullet and purchased mint and garlic chives. The lovely little herbs have been planted in quirky things (a teapot and a sunny yellow striped pot) and are now doing their herby thing on our front step. They look so cute. Can’t wait to use them for cooking in the next couple of weeks.

I am going to grow basil, rosemary, and thyme. I’ll sow the basil myself and will expect this goal to be completed when I can make my own basil oil from the basil I have grown.

I have managed to keep my basil alive for over a month now, which is a big achivement for someone who can’t even keep a cactus to survive.
I took a random supermarket version and replanted it in a large pot with good soil, weeding out the smaller stems. Plucking only the top leaves has left me with a bushy form. Now it only needs water every other day.
Just love frech basil on tomato and mozarella :-)
Next plant could be a thyme

Not that kind you fruit cake…I did it in my Aero Garden. I didn’t use a single one…in fact I pulled them out and replaced them with tomatoes that will be ready to eat in a few weeks.

I am trying to eat healthy and find more joy in everyday life. Here are the benefits I see from growing my own herb garden!
1. Encourage me to create flavorful healthy dishes and cook at home.
2. I love to garden!
3. I can make my own flavored oils, flavored salts, pesto, etc. and preserve them, then give some as gifts!
Looking forward to planting a nice variety of herbs as soon as we get a home.
