Aikido is a great martial art – you get to meet great people, learn new skills and have lots of FUN. Its also a very co-operative martial art, so the people who tend to stick out at it are all very awesome. And many tricks you pick up along the way are pretty impressive – especially the high falls and forward rolls.

went to my third class tonight. it’s fun, a good aerobic work out without being too hard, and i finally feel like i’m starting to get the hang of a few moves. not that it will be that useful for personal defense until i get a lot better, but i think i’ll try to go regularly for a while and see how it goes. i’m looking forward to getting good enough to try the sword class…
I live in Australia, and was lucky enough to grow up near what was then the only Yoshinkan-style Aikido school out here. I learned from Joe Thambu (6th dan), who is an incredible practitioner. While I no longer study Aikido, I took from it a mental discipline that I probably would never have developed otherwise. These days, I write quite a lot, and often find myself writing action sequences, which are certainly enriched by this training.
