I’d love to be able to grow some of my own food in our garden. I live in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and so many vegetables we buy at the market are imported from neighboring countries and I doubt this is sustainable. It seems tropical horticulture is quite tricky and I am looking for a good source of information.

this is my ultimate goal. work full time for a few years, while working toward this goal. i want to grow lots of berries and other things year round to make a full time income from it. as gerek gets older he can be involved in it, although i will not force him of course, but kids love planting, growing and picking (and eating!) foods. i will spend the next couple of years researching, refining and fine tuning until i am ready to tackle this most wonderful of challenges!
My dream is a rooftop robotics system powered by solar and doing rainwater collection and then distributing water and doing climate control, sunlight regulation, etc. via genetic algorithms that get better with age in your location and maybe start with hints from local gardeners in your area who already have experience in container gardening. You don’t ever have to go up on the roof, the bots bring containers up and down for you to weed or harvest (realistically I can’t program a bot to pick weeds or do the planting and pruning and harvesting, but it could move pods around to give them more sunlight, distribute water, etc.) It’s going to be several years before I have the time and money to run this experiment but I’m watching what components are out there and there is a lot of development in this space that is making it more feasible…
I would love this though – plant and then put some of the gardening on cruise control and check at your leisure – totally off the grid, totally organic, totally local!
I’m not quite sure of the definition of a ‘micro farm’ but I would like to be able to grow enough food to not have to go shopping that often, and prehaps produce some surplus. All organic of course.
