Actually, I completed this goal at the end of the summer but for some reason forgot to update. It was a long book but well worth it. It is so easy to get caught up in the western view of history and miss huge events on the other side of the world that continue to impact the world now. One step closer to being less ignorant.

I’m on page 176 of 613. There are so many facts its moving very slowly. I hope I retain some information at the end.
It is just incredible how callous Mao is and also, how manipulative. He consistently gets what he wants using fear, threats and playing on the fact that all the other people, who might have stood up against him, also had their own agendas, their own skeletons to keep locked up. It seems like almost no one actually believed in the true vision of communism, even at its onset.
Mao even forced his third wife to leave behind at least three infants, one just moments after birth, leave them with strangers along marching routes. He didn’t even care. I don’t understand.

I have begun this one. I got the book out of the library (along with 9 others) as soon as I got back from school. I have read about 100 pages. Barely a dent in this monstrous account. I have learned a lot (considering I knew very little about him to begin with). He didn’t even begin with true communist values, about caring for the poor. It was always about power.
