I plan to keep depositing too. Maybe by the time I retire, I can actually retire.
How I did it: I just made the decision to take control of my money. I started out with 500.00 and I have scheduled 100.00 to be taken out of checking and placed in my ING Direct account, on the 1st of every month. Out of sight, out of mind.
Lessons & tips: It's a small start, but still a start!

I have the opposite problem. Right now, while I can still live at home, I’ve been saving up for college and a car to get me there. But, even with these reasons for motivation, I hate to spend money! Rarely do I go out somewhere and really see something I can’t walk away without. My Grandpa says I have a sensitive pocketbook. Good luck with this, it’s worth doing!

I have been doing this and then I try to forget it’s there.
I need to save money. I spend enough!!
I’ve done this. I currently have $228 (£111) going into my savings account per paycheck. Not a tremendous amount but as much as we can spare atm. I will mark this done as soon as we get through the holidays. I just want to ensure that I don’t stop the savings to pay for holiday expenses. The price of fueling a car these days doesn’t help… especially since we bought a new V6 :-) I hope to mark this done by the start of 2008.

I just logged onto 43things and saw this goal about depositing money into savings so I went and logged into my savings and deposited. I probably wouldn’t have if I hadn’t seen it in front of me.

This time I need to leave it alone.
Just as soon as it increases to a rather large amount, I find something to spend that money on so I always withdraw it.
I’ll try harder this time to leave it alone.
I put $200 more in my savings account after Christmas. I know it’s not much but every wee bit helps. Plus, I’m proud to say that I didn’t touch my savings for Christmas shopping. I didn’t charge anything either (in fact I don’t use credit cards at all)! Yay!!!
About putting money into savings. I could afford to put a bit more in but I really can’t bear to have much more than a grand in savings for the moment as I have some high interest variable student loads to pay off. Sometimes, I get so tempted to take the 1,300. out of savings and use it to pay off a good portion of one of those loans. Then, I get my head back and realise that I need to have a grand or so in savings for an emergency like needing to purchase a ticket to fly out to Mark in case of emergency. Things will be so much easier after he’s living here. We’ll save a lot of money in plane tickets alone!
Hope everyone is doing well with this goal.
Cheers,
Sissy

...since completely depleting my entire savings over the past 2 1/2 years ( $22,000) and going into some serious debt, ( $15,000),,,,and with finally getting some paying jobs in the past 3 months,,,,I set up an auto-transfer from my checking into my Roth IRA at the beginning of the month…
It’s not much, just $17, but its a start, and an amount i wont miss. Any bonuses or Xmas $$ will go into that account as well. As the olde cliche goes: pay yourself first. Even with all my debt, i know i also have to start first with building up the Nest Egg. the Rainy Day / slush fund…..
A small start, but a start….!
That will rise substantially (like, by a factor of 8) when I finish clearing my debt.
