How to learn how to use my digital camera by rheajill

"Oh, that's what that's for!"

How I did it: I have had the camera for 6 months.   I finally decided instead of asking people around me everywhere I go, "do you know how to work a canon?," to figure out how it works.  Usually my strategy is just to press buttons until something good happens.  When a picture did not get taken because no one could figure out the settings, I thought, you know, I'm gonna have to dig out the manual.  Now, of course I could not find the manual, so I went to the canon website and downloaded it to my computer.  I just learned basic functions, which is really all I'm interested in anyway--advanced functions I may take a look at later.  I ended up calling Canon about four times to get my memory card to work.  I actually bought a memory card that has 2 gig of space instead of using the card the camera came with.  So now, I get to take hundreds of pics without being concerned about storage space.  I should have done this a long time ago!

    I took photographs for a charity event this weekend, and I must say, the prints turned out damn good. Much better than my photos from the same event last year. Perhaps I am getting the hang of this is after all…

    Not going to mark as done just yet. I think I need a little more practice to be able to take consistently good photographs. Must work on this in the near future.

    Manual 10 months ago

    I finally pulled out the manual the other day. Its not the most exciting thing to read, but I finally understood why some of my pics have been coming out blurry. Before this I though it was my camera and was convinced it was broken.

    I love hiking and taking pictures while hiking kind of goes hand in hand. Hopefully on my next hike I will know enough to take some really good pics. But for now – still reading …

    Right now I have everything set for automatic, so I don’t have to deal with it, but I really want to learn how to be more creative with it. I also have an old Nikon as well that I want to use – but I’m taking baby steps and practicing with my digital camera first.

    i love photography and taking pictures. i bought a real nice camera with lots of features but i havent been taking advantage of them because i havent read the manual. i usually do, but this time, i havent had the time. i need to take out the manual and try to read a little bit each day.

    I’m doing a favor for my mother on Sunday and photographing her golf association for their end-of-season party. Not exactly subject matter that I’d choose on my own, but I think it’ll be good practice of the use of my camera.

    Time to drag out the instruction manual! I really should’ve done this a long time ago.

    I never go anywhere without my digital camera now. So many memories, such lovely pics! of course now I have to make a conscious decision to print the pics from each outing/occasion to include in my photo albums.
