I went to the Shakespeare Festival in the 90s and stayed in a B&B which had rooms in the trees, like tree houses. It was one of the best adventures of my life. We saw Richard III. It was really about John, if you are familiar with the play. If you are remotely a Shakespeare fan, DO THIS. Everytime I hear the Steely Dan song KINGS, I remember this fabulous experience.
How to attend the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, OR
How I did it: I went to Ashland in the early 1990s and would like to go again. Being a poor(er) student at the time, we camped. The campground wasn't great -- there were lots of bees and the weather was over 100 degrees -- hot for someone from Seattle. We spent much of the day wandering around in air-conditioned shops, but we went on the backstage tour (well worth it) and then saw Taming of the Shrew at the outdoor theater. While this isn't my favorite play (and my SO had either the fearlessness or stupidity to ask "well, did you learn anything?" afterward...resulting in a punch), it was wonderfully performed, the costumes were great, and the whole atmosphere was romantic. By the time of the play, the weather was warm, but comfortable.
Lessons & tips: Plan to stay longer than we did and take in more plays. Plan in advance!!!

...of course I didn't have this resource back when I went, just the catalog. I would love to do this again someday.

and both times it was amazing! Ashland is a fun, funky little town, and of course the plays are brillantly performed! I was fortunate enough to go with my Highschool Literature class, and I definately want to do this again someday…
ashland is a tiny little town, but good things come in small packages. i’ll be attending college there next year.
I remember we got kicked out of our motel for being too rowdy ;)
I had a great time here, and it’s a beautiful little town

Back when I was in high school I went with a bunch of drama geeks. It was so much fun and I would love to go again.
