It’s not amazing but it’s better than I thought. There’s an IHOP, Walmart, and Michaels close by… What more would I need?

On my way... 2 years ago

Leaving in about an hour. Just waiting for my hubby to pick me up and we’ll be on our way…

Well, I don't want to... 2 years ago

But the military is sending my hubby there so I must follow. It should be nice though. I’m from England so it’ll definitly be different!

Move to Lincoln or Omaha. Better jobs, better schools. More culture and more choice. Lived in Lincoln for a little over a year and loved it. Small town feel in a big clean city. Omaha seems a little dirtier and higher crime, but is tempting also. Would like to live just outside of town. Less than 30 minutes to Lincoln/Omaha/Council Bluffs.

    Maybe. 3 years ago

It’s worth it because of family. Mine lives at the west end, my wife’s lives in the northeastern part. We live in the center, so it works nicely.

It’s also worth it for Lincoln and Omaha. I have loved Omaha for a long time—since going to college at Creighton in the mid-90s. Since coming back to NE, I’ve discovered that I also really like Lincoln.

It’s not worth it for the political scene. The Red States Scare Me™, and this state is really red. The Democratic Party in this state is a futile gesture, and the Greens are a joke. There are shining pockets of progressive thought—Lincoln has both a real, true food co-op (not a friggin Wild Oats or some other corporate nonsense) and a fair-trade coffee shop (The Coffee House at 1324 P—which, by the way, also makes really good coffee). Not much, but not bad for a city its size. And I meet people who are (or want to be) progressive. But it would be nice if that weren’t such a calendar-marking occasion.

It’s not worth it for the culture. To be fair, Omaha has good food, good live theatre, and a great local music scene. But it’s almost 3 hours away, and that’s too much for a babysitter night. And nowhere else has any of those things. The best thing here in town is mediocre steak (in Nebraska!) and the college’s two theatre productions a year. And even in Omaha, much less Kearney, it’s nearly impossible to see non-mainstream films on a regular basis. Lincoln has the Ross, but that’s it for the entire state.

Oh well. Obviously we think it’s worth it overall—we bought a house here.

and we’re loving Lincoln, and Omaha is a super cute town. As one neighbor desribes this area, the “blue” yolk in the red state. Just moved from Portland, OR, and although I miss the NW, I’m liking the people here more, funny enough, more progressive although less “hip.” I’ve lived in NYC, Seattle, Portland, LA, and now Lincoln. This is one of the nicest places I’ve lived. (Hated LA and Seattle, too many racists, traffic, consumerism).

You sure about that? 4 years ago

Colorado to Nebraksa? Hrmmm… I can only speak for myself but I’m from Nebraska (lived in both Lincoln and Omaha) and if I were you, I’d stick with Colorado…

Denver has all the good things about Nebraska, and none of the bad.
