Went in August 2 years ago

My husband and I went to see Bourne Ultimatum at the the Valley 6 Drive-In in Auburn (near Seattle). I loved the experience. It was a bit sad to see very low attendance. It was a Sunday night and I’m sure they get a few more people on Friday and Saturday nights but nothing like in the heyday.

The snack bar building was large and full of video games and multiple lanes for ordering food. I could just imagine how packed the place was about 40 years ago. But now there just a couple of us stragglers in there.

We had a great time though and I hope to go again before the season closes next month.

This summer? 2 years ago

I will have to try to get this one checked off this summer.

Great family activity 2 years ago

It’s a good way to isolate fussy babies from the rest of the audience, yet still see a movie.

Cheesy fun 2 years ago

When I was a kid (many, many years ago), the family used to go to drive-in movies. I remember one of the first (if not the first) was A Shot in the Dark, the second Pink Panther movie. It was released in 1964, so I must have been 5 or 6.

The good thing about this for families with small kids is that if we were unruly, it was my parents’ problem, not everyone’s problem.

Then, as a teenager, my stepbrother and I would go to cheesy soft-core porn R rated movies, because you could drink beer and watch a cheesy soft-core porn R rated movie if you were a teenaged boy. They weren’t very good movies, but we enjoyed them just the same.

I can’t remember the last time I went to a drive-in. They’re hard to find anymore. I think it was the one on Sheridan in Denver, over by JCRS, but I can’t remember the name of it. It must’ve been in the late 1970s.

Get your favorite take out meal and your favorite friend or significant other and enjoy your evening under the stars. Unfortunately these are becoming quite a thing of the past – here in Munich we now have movies in the park which is similar but not as retro American (What do I expect this is not America!) – it is nice we can bring wine here.

Fun, fun, fun! 3 years ago

Of course, you’ll miss half the movie, but it’s great fun.

If you are 72 you have been to a lot of drive in movies 3 years ago

A great experience, cuddling up to someone on the front seat, sharing popcorn, a full moon above, soft breeze coming in the window. Might drive-ins ever make a big come back ?

I remember doing this, years and years ago; I think it was Angels in the Outfield that my family went to see. I was young, but it was so fun. As a little kid I was just so excited to do something like that.
