teach children about God and life with adventurous and entertaining stories from the bible

I just committed to teaching bible stories @ my church for Vacation Bible School. Before this commitment I’d been working with Sudanese women. I began a program called Learning Opps. My mission statement is: Each One…Reach One…Teach One. I’ve been reading books on story-telling so this will be my first time actually “doing”. This is the next step in my pilot program.

I’ve started with a group of 15 women. We had class three days a week for 3 hours a day. Our goal was to teach reading. I used The Christian Literary Series & am very happy with it. Very few Sudanese women know how to read & totally have virtually no comprehension of what they can read. Oh…they’ve learned “how-to” use the system but that is it.

While browsing, i found this entry very touching. I really want to teach children about god and life because i do have a child but was away from me for the moment.

After reading my bible and thinking over what I had just read, it came to me.

Some of us grow up with a lot of insecurities and fear. We grow up not understanding life and blame God or others for all the things that go wrong in our lives. We don’t understand why certain things happen to us.

God said, “...though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith…may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.” (1 Pet 1:6-7). God allows these things to happen to strengthen us and prepare us for what is to come. God also uses us to reach out to others. In Genesis 50:20, Joseph told his brothers not to be afraid for treating him badly. He told them, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

Life is about learning and growing in mind, body, and spirit. If I can just teach children these simple principles through God’s Word, they’ll have a better hold on life.
