That should be doable, right? Monday, Wednesday and once on the weekend. It’s nothing hard, it’s just one of those out of sight, out of mind things, which seems to be worse since the box is in the basement now.
How to clean the litterbox more often
How I did it: In short: get my depression properly medicated. It took years of trying different meds, which was VERY frustrating, but a year ago we hit on the right combination. Woohoo! As a result, MUCH has improved in my life. I still don't clean my cat's box daily, but I clean it much, much more often than I used to, so I'm marking this one done.
Lessons & tips: Listen to your cat. If she's meowing and she has plenty of food and water, go check her box and see if it needs cleaning.

And is nicer for the cats, I got extra motivated now that we have two cats and one that might avoid a litter box that isn’t clean enough and go on the floor instead.

my boyfriend and i have gotten a lot better about cleaning out the litter box. he is going to take over sole responsibility for it now so i’m removing this from my list

we found a shallow plastic container, not as wide as we would like, but it was really cheap so we decided to try it out. one container of cat litter will fill the bottom to the proper lever. no more wasted cat litter! now if we can just clean the damn thing more often. we take turns, but i think we are going to have to have set days that we do it. usually whoever did it last complains to the person’s whose turn it is to clean it. lol

we only have two litter boxes now, but they are the extra large ones. they are way too deep and i feel like we are wasting a lot of litter. we are currently looking at the storage bins you use to store stuff under the bed so we can get a shallower yet wider box or two. hopefully this will work out better.

i have to change the boxes. my boyfriend and i need to stay on top of sifting then out so they don’t get so bad.
NawfalAQ is thinking about updating this list
Since September, I changed litter from non-scoopable to scoopable. This works, because I must change/scoop the litter nightly and the cats and the household are exponentially happier now. Smells are eradicated, unslightly tootsie rolls are gone. It takes some diligence, but you kinda train yourself into the routine of doing it. This is totally and completely worthwhile!

well we haven’t cleaned them in a week, but bought new litter today so we can change them tomorrow. we’ve decided we need to sift them every other day. we have four cats, things are gonna get ugly if we don’t. FYI walgreen’s has the best cat litter!
