I got a book by Karen Salmonsohn that has some exercises to help with this. I think she basically characterizes it as deciding that your goal is to win. Then you have to answer the question “win what?” I haven’t gotten through the first two, which are to list 25 things you would do if A) you had only six months to live and B) if you had forever to live.
but a mission and a purpose. Where am I going and why am I going there? What do I want my career and more importantly, my life to be about?
Looking back, I think my “vision” earlier in life was of me, rising above my circumstances, using the abilities and intelligence I knew I had to achieve greater security, stability, and maybe even normality. Check.
And now what? I feel like I have the potential for more happiness and fulfillment, but I need a direction.

Also…have a look at this website, this man is truly inspirational and just encourages you to do more with you life and have a vision without limits. Despite being blind he has flown a microlight from London to Sydney amongst many other notable acheivements…his courage is absolutely amazing.
