I’ve made no progres on this goal, so I thought I’d make a list of my favourite books so that when I see this on my 43t page I’ll have something more concrete, instead of just “re-read my favourite books”. Off the top of my head, some of my favourite books include:
The Brothers K by David James Duncan
No Coins Please by Gordon Korman
The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon
Microserfs by Douglas Coupland
Sometimes A Great Notion by Ken Kesey
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
The Meaning of Everything by Simon Winchester
Cash by Johnny Cash
Okay, there’s a decent list. Though I wish some of them were longer. New challenge: read a minumum of ONE of these books by the end of the summer. It can be a short one or a long one, but it has to get done.
There. That’s a good kick in the pants. I hope.

People focus a lot of the time on reading new books. A lot of these “Read XX books in 2007” goals are really good – I’m working my way through 30 books right now – but what about all those books on your bookshelf that you’ve already read? Shouldn’t you go back through them and see if they were as good as you remember? Maybe see if you should bother keeping them on your shelf? That’s why I adopted this goal. I figure if I re-read one book every month (which will likely turn into one book every two months, with my schedule), I’ll be more likely to re-visit old favourites and to cull the dust-gatherers from my shelf. My first decision: which book to read first…

I’d really like to re-read The Brothers Karamazov and Of Human Bondage to start with. I haven’t read Brothers since high school.
