I sold it last month. I had never sold a car before, so I was really confused about how to do it, but it was a 15 year old car and I got a $1000 for it. Now that it’s gone, I never want a car again.

How to get rid of my car"Step one: move out of the burbs..."
How I did it: I donated my '92 Celica to Teddy Bear Cops, which may or may not be a worthwhile charity, but they offered free towing from my place of residence and had the quickest response time of any charity in the DC area. The car barely ran and was leaking several different fluids, but they took it off my hands anyway. Lessons & tips: It really helps to live in a city that's pedestrian-friendly, bike-friendly, and has an excellent public transportation system. I don't think I could've lived without a car in the suburbs of Northern Virginia. Resources: http://givecars.com |

How I did it: It took an accident to end my relationship with my car. I've been thinking about getting rid of my for quite a while, but I always seemed to find an excuse to keep it. Then, a garbage truck side-swiped me and the vehicle was written off.I'm in school right now and don't really have the time to look for a new car, so carless it is! Read how I did it…
How I did it: For a good chunk of the year before I got rid of the car, I was walking and taking public transportation more, and my car just sat there. That was a good test to see how I'd do without it. I also hated paying for gas and maintenance of the darned thing. Sold my car to someone who could use it on Craigslist. Couldn't be happier about it!Now that I'm car free, I am so glad to be free of those worries. I recently got a bike, too, so I get so… Read how I did it…

A signature and a few days to go , I could cross this off . The arrangements are made, the car is where it is going and I’m not spending another penny on it .
I moved about a mile from where I work and just did it! I figure with car payment, insurance, and gas, I save about 650.00 a month. Sweet.

this is not going to happen anytime soon. Plus, my parents live an hour away with no way to get there. At one time I was very interested in doing this but at this point I love my job and love my city and they are 20 minutes apart with no transit line :( At some point maybe I will be able to live in a one-car household, or if I changed jobs I may reopen this goal. I am going to replace it and “walk or bike to anywhere within two miles of my home” with “drive less.” A bit fuzzier, but lots more ways to meet it. Here goes.
so, i ride my bike a ton. i just moved downtown and there is no parking. i am a sustainability and public transportation major (self designed) so having a car seems hypocritical…BUT
I still owe money on my car. I got it a year ago when i needed one (I was living in a small town very far from “home”) and I cant afford the 12000 loan payoff in order to then sell it. supposedly its worth the same as the loan, but how is it that i get out of it without having to have the title free and clear to sell it in the first place. uggg.
soon soon soon.

this morning, and they gave me £25 for it. I’m glad it’s gone, I couldn’t afford to keep up the tax, insurance, MOT, etc on it. Besides, cycling is much healthier, cheaper and better for the environment—ideal for a flat place like Portsmouth!
I had it towed away last fall before the snow started falling. The junk yard gave me $75 for it. I’m happy. I still have one car, but it was great to get rid of the extra car. One less thing to worry about.
