I love to read and I want to pass that love of reading to others. I would love to get an international book reading community going online along with a physical bookstore. I’m starting my research now which is my first little step toward this goal.
I’ve been thinking very seriously about opening a used book store. I LOVE books, and this would be for me a dream. My father always told me, if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. The older that i get, the more that i realize that’s true. This is what i want to do with the rest of my life. I’m just not sure if it will feed me or not.
I have been thinking about this for a while now. Maybe a used bookstore and game store.
My name is Stephanie Chandler and in 2003 I kissed off corporate America and opened Book Lovers Bookstore in Sacramento, CA. It was the best decision of my life!
If you’re thinking about starting your own used bookstore, here are some tasks you need to complete:
*Start acquiring your inventory
*Purchase shelves
*Acquire retail fixtures and supplies including a cash register, check-out counter, shopping bags, book display stands, and office supplies.
*Outline your book trade policy and pricing strategy.
*Find a retail location, preferably near an “anchor” store.
*Apply for a business license.
*Set up a system for accounting.
*Learn about how to start and run a business.
*Advertise the heck out of your business!
Running a bookstore is a lot of work but it can also be a very rewarding business. If you would like more information, visit my website that offers free resources for starting a used bookstore: http://businessinfoguide.com/bookstore.htm
