The people I am finding.. 4 weeks ago

while researching questionable exercise equipment (ab circle pro) and even more questionable supplements (Jillian Michaels triple process detox and cleanse) are making me weep for our world. The abject avarice, the unconscionable greed of the con artists and snake oil salesmen (and women) is honestly deeply disturbing.
I don’t feel that I can leave these people alone while I have the ears of several hundred people. I feel it is my duty to share what I am learning about them, but just splitting my focus to research them and their scams is making me angry and distracted.
Honestly it makes me happy to know that a) I don’t have enough power to corrupt myself, and b) what little power I have, I have wielded as responsibly as I could.
Wow there are some shitty people in this world though.

A very rewarding... 1 month ago

blog entry about my blog. I am very pleased. I just need to get a few hundred more of these and my book is as good as published ;-)

I find... 1 month ago

That on good days, when things are going my way, as if in some psychic connection, things are going well on twitter and my blog at the same time. I get tons of follows from great people and retweets on Twitter. I get 2 or three great supporting comments from people who get what I am saying. But on days when things aren’t going my way, things on twitter and wordpress seem to go against me as well. I get comments of ‘URNotAFitPerson is following me, what do they know about me, go to hell’ and no where near as much activity on my blog. No comments as well.
I know I am going to get this book published. I am sure of it. It is just too timely. Everyone appears to be looking this way themselves. The whole zeitgeist will be there shortly. So I will keep plugging away, through the ups and downs. I would love to speed up the adding and spread out word a little faster, but hey, you can only do what you do.
One worry that I did have was that I would become all about fitness, all about the book I wrote. I have been hanging out with a bunch of people, friends that I have and not one of them has any idea that I have even put pen to paper. We didn’t talk fitness once nor was there any desire to do so. I talked to a couple of people who know about the book and they said that they were surprised how little of my regular life was part of this. I need to keep this separate and not a big part of my life or I become a fitness guy, which is essentially a fit guy. I can’t do that or I won’t be able to speak to myself, or the people like me any more. I hope that makes sense. In any case, it is working for me.
Still, the down days suck!

I really want to get this book published. I wrote it about a year ago and it is one of my dearest ambitions to get it out to the world

Twittering about 'You Are Not A Fit Person' 2 months ago

So, a friend of mine recommended setting up a twitter account and to start twittering about my book. I had already set up a blog, so I twitter about that daily. I am beginning to get a following, up to about 400 so far. URNotAFitPerson is my twitter name, so if you want to go over there and follow me, I could use more followers. You can find my blog at www.youarenotafitperson.com
In any case, I am not sure how this is going to help me get published, but publishers need you to have a following before they will take a chance on you (or at the least it certainly helps)...
The journey continues.

Over the Christmas break... 2 months ago

I sat down and wrote out the process that I used in getting fit. The realizations, the lessons, the methods, the ideas, etc. The outline was pretty easy to write as I had just spent the previous two years getting fit. I wrote a quick first draft of the book from beginning to end. Since then, I have been editing and adding tables, charts, recipes, etc to the book.
I have contacted about 11 agents, and I have received one form letter no and one considerably nicer, I love the title of your book, I think it could be good but I don’t represent lifestyle books.
After doing some research, it appears that agents are interested in fitness experts or doctors when publishing weightloss books. The problem for me is that my book argues that a big part of our weight problem is that we have been listening to the experts, and the experts are nothing like us. They don’t even know the problems we are facing as they haven’t been overweight couch potatoes.
The book is called ‘You Are Not A Fit Person’ and argues that fit people are totally different from us. We don’t need the exercise manuals or ridiculous diets that they have been selling, we need smarter methods that work for us.
I have written the book, and you can read the first chapter of the book., as well as read my blog with some fitness and diet advice.
I will probably be self publishing it and doing a small run for promotion. I am looking at lulu.com and iuniverse.com. If anyone has any opinions or experiences, I would love to hear it.
The whole world of internet health and fitness advice has been tremendously disturbing as every con person with an internet connection is selling some piece of crap for exercise or some cleanse or absurd diet promise. I am quite eager to get my book to the next level, to that of a published book, so I can begin to distance myself from these people. I am a huge fan of e-books, but they are such an easy target for affiliate scammers, especially in the health and nutrition arena.
So wish me luck and send me any advice you have. After all, it was advice right here on 43things.com that got me started in getting fit.

Outline 6 months ago

I figured out a big kind-of outline for the book. Spent time going through the hundreds of pages I’d written and picked out what would be most pertinent.

Not much time indeed 6 months ago

I let that opportunity slip. I need to make a more organized plan on how to accomplish this. Too tired right now to think about it.

A potential contact 6 months ago

I heard a poet will be coming to Cleveland to do a workshop on Poetry and Healing. I will work on getting 20 of my poems/writings together and present it to him, asking for advice. I’d better move this up on my priority list, though. Not much time.

Poetry is my therapy 7 months ago

I have been collecting poetry since I was in junior high. Most of the poetry I collect is inspirational, spiritual, transformational. They are the ones that truly resonate with me. I am in the process of choosing around 20 of them, and writing briefly how they’ve contributed to my transformation. Then pose a question(s) to the reader asking what in the poem resonates with them. I have been sending these poems almost daily to a distribution list of friends, and the feedback is always interesting. One part of a poem may really strike me, and another part of them poem settles in someone else’s heart.

If anyone can help me on the publishing process, I would Greatly appreciate it!
