I just got back from Oaxaca and Mexico City. I spent 9 days in Oaxaca, and 3 unplanned days in Mexico City. I attended Spanish lessons, climbed the Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon, visited Monte Alban, drank beer and Mezcal in Oaxaca’s Zocalo for a week, ate chipolines, ate some great Oaxacan food, took cooking lessons, and had a great time!
I plan to return to Mexico City for longer, some day, and might return to Oaxaca as well. I’m sure I’ll be visiting other places as well, but I consider this goal accomplished.
Mexico seems like such a rich and interesting country, and it is right at my doorstep (I live in Texas). I’ve travelled in Europe several times, and now I want to learn more about the beautiful and diverse nation across the border. I’ve been to the beach resorts in the Yucatan and some border towns, but I really want to explore Mexico City, Oaxaca, and other areas (not the tourist zones).
We’re finally going to Oaxaca this spring, and we’ll be studying Spanish for a week during our stay. I’m hoping that being surrounded by people speaking the language will help me overcome my lifelong inability to learn another language.
