I love the water, and have always felt the need to live within a couple of hours of the ocean. During junior & senior years in undergrad, I lived in an apartment off the Delaware River. It was so relaxing to start and end my school day driving a few miles along the river.
I grew up around boats (grandpa’s sailboat on the Long Island Sound first, then the family collection of powerboats). I loved to hang off the ladder on the back of grandpa’s boat as we sailed back home after a day at the beach, and to lay on the side of the bow of the family boat during the evening and just watch it cut through the water. There are few things more relaxing!
Can’t think of anything better than living on the water!

I grew up in Michigan. Now, living in the desert, I find I’m increasingly missing being near large bodies of open water. :(

I took the WhatEuropean city do you belong in Quiz, and came up with this answer:
You Belong in Amsterdam
A little old fashioned, a little modern – you’re the best of both worlds. And so is Amsterdam.
Whether you want to be a squatter graffiti artist or a great novelist, Amsterdam has all that you want in Europe (in one small city).
What European City Do You Belong In?
I’ve been to Amsterdam before and it didn’t hit on me as being MY city, but OK why not? Perhaps I should plan a city trip there…

Walked by the water today. Beautiful. Sort of spring rocky waves.

I’d like to do this for a little while, say, a month, but not for the rest of my life. I worked on a boat for five weeks (on the boat during the day and off the boat at night) and the first week I was landsick. Everytime I got on land I felt like my head was going around and around (as if the movement of the ocean waves were in my head).
