I’ve seen the sunrise loads of times, but I haven’t really sat and WATCHED it, and there is a difference. It happened by accident really – I happened to wake up early on holiday and because our apartment shutters were dark and didn’t have a watch I went out onto the balcony to see if it was light. The sun was just starting to rise so I stayed up to watch it. It was very peaceful and relaxing, just me, a solitary jogger and a couple of men going past in a fishing boat – it was absolutely beautiful.

How to watch the sunrise"Not exactly what I had in mind when I set this goal, but perfect none the less :)"
How I did it: Over the last couple of weeks I have spent some very special early morning moments watching the sunrise while nursing my new baby son. It's very soothing to sit quietly and watch the stars fade and the sky lighten from that first faint blue tinge to full sunshiney daylight. Resources: You can generate a calendar showing sunrise and sunset times for your location at http://www.sunrisesunset.com/.

How I did it: I actually did it by accident. I was staying up way too late, and I looked at the clock and realized Sunrise was soon. So, I went outside and watched it. *slightly* not as bright as I had hoped, but I think that was just because of my location being next to a big city. Still amazing though :) Read how I did it…
How I did it: I got up extra early with my husband, made a pot of coffee and started a fire in our chiminea. We went out on the deck and the stars were bright in the deep blue sky, but as we sat sipping and watching the fire, the dawn began breaking. It was a very spiritual thing! Read how I did it…

How I did it: Easy really, just got up and watched. I do find it really difficult to get out of my cozy warm bed being a night owl though so I picked a day I didn't have to do anything and stayed up all night to watch it. Read how I did it…

How I did it: I had spent the night talking with someone I just met. As the hours went by, we were joking about staying up all night to see the sunrise. And we did! We just went to bed right after that ... ^^ Read how I did it…
How I did it: Got up before the sun rose, and watched it rise, whilst listening to some Beethoven....think it was a symphony, but it was a while ago now so I've forgotten. Read how I did it…

Okay, so technically I’ve already done this, but I want to watch the sunrise from really high up, like the roof of a house/building or a water tower or something…
is something I never even thought of adding, until a few weeks ago when I noticed that someone had this on their list. There seem to be around 400 people on 43T that have some variation of this goal on their list. Some really just want to see a sunrise again or want to sit and enjoy a sunrise, but there are some people who claim to have never seen a sunrise in their life! That’s just inconceivable to me. I work early and see the sunrise often on my way to work, but have also seen the sun rise in numerous different settings at all different times of the year. When I first moved out to Colorado nearly 25 years ago I worked midnights, and on my way home from work I would stop and hike up a nearby hill to watch the sun rise over Denver.
The pic I attached was taken on my way to work a couple of days ago- the sun rising from the west side of the Denver metro area. The lake that’s barely visible is Standley Lake.

I’m thinking of climbing on the roof of my house and watching the sunrise from there.
It seems like a perfect place because it’s flat and I’ll (hopefully) have a great view from there.
I’ll do it. I just don’t know when I’m too busy these days.
There was a particular period of my life about 4 years ago when I regularly watched the sun rise and felt an amazing sense of calm and awareness of the day ahead. I want to have that feeling again!
It ties in with my goal to wake up earlier.
I want to have the time to sit by the window with a cup of tea and just watch. That’s the important thing – to give myself time to appreciate it.

Been up all night as I have the day off tomorrow (or today as it is now) and just checked the BBC weather and they reckon it’s clear skys for sunrise in one hour so might as well seize the day! Moved down to Portsmouth a few months ago so it’s about 5mins drive to the most easterly point of the island. A tiny spit of land jetting out into the sea, should be good. Will try and take a pic.
