How I did it: In my bread machine, I use 1 teaspoon of yeast (in the little yeast compartment) plus 1 cup of bread flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, 2 tablespoons of sucanat, 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal, 1/8 cup of almond milk, and 6/8 cup of water. It makes a very fluffy, light, moist, chewy, DELICIOUS loaf that has plenty of fiber and omega 3 fatty acids. I put all the dry ingredients together in a plastic bag a… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Tried 3 different recipies on the internet until i found one i liked! I use fast action dried yeast now - i can't tell any difference between that and the old school stuff you have to leave to ferment by itself Read how I did it…
How I did it: I have made bread without the bread machine and it can be hard work kneeding it. I do not use the bread machine to raise it or cook it. I take it out of the bread machine after kneeding. Let raise an hour or so, punch down, roll out if called for, cut into 2 loaves, place in standard bread pans, let raise an hour or so again and bake for about 25 minutes at about 400 deg F( varies depending on oven and bread type). Zooot is overwhelmed with work and has no time left.
Monkey bread, banana bread, ginger bread or wholewheat? Maybe a loaf of old-fashioned hard-core ginger bread. I’ll search for a recipe soon.
My new awesome friend monique gave me an article on making bread. It’s pretty easy, doesn’t take as much time as one would expect. It’s made using natural yeast from my own starter I’m making (aka “The Mother”) and I’m looking forward to yummy earthy delicious bread.
The article is in Mary Jane’s Farm magazine. It’s great. All about making bread the way your grandmothers and greatgrandmothers would’ve done.
Today is day two of the Mother’s life. You add a little water and flour everyday for about a week. Then you start using it! =D
I talked to my boyfriend, and he wants to do this, too! (He also enjoys cooking/baking). Probably we’ll do this after all the holiday stuff is done. I figure it’s better for us to do this together because homemade bread doesn’t keep as long as store-bought, so we have a better chance of actually finishing it off before it goes bad if there are two people involved.
I used to bake bread all the time… but last year I just stopped doing it. I need to get a sourdough starter going and just get back into the swing of it. There is nothing more delcious than fresh baked bread.
This time I want to make some artisan breads. Do a natural sourdough and maybe a biga? who knows… the possibilities are endless….

i’ve done this before but not in a long time. wonder if i still can?
I made the Doris Grant recipe below. It was very simple as no kneading was required. Think I used the wrong sized tin, but still, a much better flavour than bread I normally buy. I’ll try it again, following the recipe properly next time.
