Two Weeks Off 11 months ago

I get to spend two weeks at home – no business travel!

It's like…a habit or something. 11 months ago

We went to see a play sans baby. Raisin in the Sun is much better than I had anticipated. I suppose my hopes were down because it was the sort of thing that my high school English class would read (and I’m convinced that their purpose was to make us hate reading). But it was good.

After that we went to a really good tapas place near home.

We’re going out on a date without baby.

Could it be dinner and a movie?

I don't know how we managed this 14 months ago

But this weekend, from home, we will have a date without baby.

How does this come about? What bizarre set of circumstances led to this unheard of happening?

I don’t know. I figure I better not ask lest it not happen again. Otherwise we will be relegated to dates that happen hundreds of miles from home (to wit: Vegas, San Diego and the Twin Cities this year).

Business Travel Hurts 15 months ago

I have not been able to spend more time with my wife, but have been able to spend better time with her. Daily phone calls and frequent cards and notes mailed home have helped me stay in her good graces.

Using my hotel loyalty points 16 months ago

To book a room near the Twin Cities for an overnight trip with the wife. We’ll be leaving baby with the in-laws for a night.

So let’s hear it for hotel loyalty programs helping me get some time with my wife while working on a tight budget.

    It's hard 16 months ago

It’s been really tricky with baby. We work different hours now. She goes in earlier, and I work once she gets home. I’ve also been on the road for work too, with an added surprise trip to Phoenix next month.

It all adds up to not seeing her very often.

My parents are coming by this weekend, so I think we’ll be going on a date then.

"more time is time well spent" 18 months ago

Since I quit teaching, I’ve spent a lot more time with my wife. We go out more and talk/make plans a lot more.

It’s a great goal and I’m glad I did it.

"lots of time" 22 months ago

Since Dec. 21 I’ve spent every day with my wife. We shut down shop in Los Angeles and moved to Washington D.C., and it’s been great.

She starts work tomorrow, so we’ll start the time balancing act again.
