Pray regularly

Catholic Prayers 5 months ago

I am a Catholic and it was recommended we pray at least twice a day:
In the morning with the ‘Morning Offering’
At night with a nightly Confession

However in the Bible it says to “pray without ceasing” and my Priest said it would be wise to pray throughout the day to keep close to God and remember his commandments.

I just bought a Catholic Prayer book that suggested this outline:
1 Make ‘The Sign of the Cross’ the first and last act of each day
2 Say the ‘Morning Offering’ and any other desired prayers
3 Say the ‘Angelus’ at Noon and again at 6pm
4 Pray the ‘Rosary’
5 ‘Lectio Divina’[or a 15 minute bible study]
6 A Nightly Confession and any desired prayers
7 Also, Aspirations and random prayerful things throughtout the day[Lord have mercy, Forgive me for my sin, Bless X and her family, May they rest in peace…etc.]

I think I will consider this goal accomplished after following this program for 30 days, since regular prayer is technically a lifelong experience.

No matter what religion one belongs to, it’s always important to set out prayer time, and stick to it on a daily basis. It’s sad that I’ve realised this only now, but I suppose better late than never.

Prayer gets you closer to the divine. It helps you to stay thankful, to remember (or to find!) your purpose and calling. And of course, prayer helps you to grow in faith. It’s like a haven in a daily rush.

Everyday I read 1 chapter from the book of Proverbs. Ex: If today is the 15th, then I would be reading the 15th chapter of Proverbs. I do this everyday & I learn something new about myself everytime. I also do this with various bible translations. I set my timer for 15 minutes and that is my do not disturb time. Sometimes it is the first thing I do when I get up in the morning, or when I hide in the potty, or when I get ready for bed.

Made a prayer list and it now sits on my desktop. Think I’ll print it out too.

In the beginning of my relationship with R, I was finding that I was praying much more regularly. Especially because I was up in time for Fajr prayer. But then the knee injury prevented me from kneeling and for some reason my sense of “prayer” during prayer was really disrupted. I stopped feeling motivated, stopped feeling like I was getting something valuable out of it. (And for me, kneeling is a “required” part of the particular kind of prayer I was thinking of when I say “pray regularly”...it’s a liturgical prayer that involves kneeling and bowing.)

I’m hoping that this gets better as my body heals, but also, I would like to find some way to divorce the physical and the spiritual aspects of prayer so that injury doesn’t make me feel spiritual bereft.

I was doing much better on this for the first half of February and then slacked off again. FWIW, it’s on my mind more. Like I’m aware of it if I miss Fajr.

I’ve been doing much better with this. There have been days when I’ve prayed all 5 times on time, even. Rare days, but still. I’ve also been really enjoying praying Fajr on time (before dawn). It really starts my day off right.

Also, towards this goal, I printed out the prayer schedule so I have it handy.
