Getting my craft on that is. I am a maker of things. I hold onto objects that might be useful ‘one day’. my storage situation is less than perfect so i need to get my shit together and finish off the various knitting and jewelry making projects i’ve got in various stages of completion.
Today, i played hookie from work. So i will finish knitting a baby blanket for my expectant friend JSB. I’m also knitting a teddy bear for her 2yr old daughter Abby.
I shall get on it immediately

Ok, my visit to the US in October really gave me a kick in the pants on this one. Americans think I came to Europe to enjoy a “semi-retirement” type of experience. Are they kidding? My European colleagues work just as hard as my US ones did. So, to show them that I have not checked out, I must finish more projects and publish more papers! I have now filled the big dry-erase board in my office with a table of ongoing projects and the status of each, so everyone can see it. Making goals public increases the chance of reaching them—so we’ll see if this works. So far, so good… I got another paper under review and finished a final draft since Nov. 2.

i have at least 35 unfinished projects laying around my house. sometimes at 3 o’clock in the morning i’ll get an epiphany and work on one of them. sometimes they’ll become something completely different from my original intention. and sometimes i’ll just look at one of them, shake my head and walk away. then i think sometimes i use this epiphany concept to not work on them. i drive the people i live with crazy. i think i may not be too far behind.

I’ve approached my projects one at a time by determining what excuse I was giving myself to put off finishing. I came up with five questions to ask and answer for each project.
1. Do I have the knowledge and skills to continue?
If yes, go to #2 – If no, go to #5.
2. Do I have the equipment/materials to continue?
If yes, go to #3 - If no, go to #4.
3. Can I complete the project within a reasonable timeframe?
If Yes, go to #4 - If no go to #5
4. Is there any reason why I can't continue?
If yes go to #5 - If no, GET STARTED!!!!
5. What do I need to do to complete this project?
If I get to this question then I need to decide how to
proceed. Can I get what I need to finish. What do I have
to overcome to continue?
So far this questioning process is working. It forces me to do something. As a result I have finished a few projects
Wiring my garage/woodshop
Repaired one of my guitars
Cleaned and prepared my fish pond for winter
Sorted my Genealogy files
Repaired my compound mitre saw
Set up my old computer for my woodshop

I have had a lifelong tendancy to get very excited at the start of any project/endeavor and then lose interest as I progress. I’ve come to believe that a large part of this problem is a result of trying to achieve perfection or at least a sense of what I envision as perfect. I have decided to start finishing all my projects, starting with the ones I can complete the quickest and get them done perfect or not.

There are so many projects floating around in my head, and partially written in my journals and sketchbooks that I am having trouble focusing on any of the big projects long enough to finish them. I need to get my ideas organized.

This is the day that I am finally finishing all the projects I have started. First off would be the website #1, then website #2 and finally #3. I can’t take the procrastination any longer. It has got to stop. I know I am capable of freeing myself.
