I’ve been putting off Sophie’s world for ages. I’m determined to read it this summer.
How to learn philosophy
How I did it: Read a lot of books. Also ask for help from the real professionals. When you come up with the same answers as the great Socrates, do we really know anything?
Lessons & tips: Think outside the box.

Scarlett call you when the music is through
Participated in Nuorten filosofiatapahtuma (Youth’s Philosophy Event) in Espoo this weekend, and even though the event per se didn’t offer me as much stimuli as I would have hoped – I expected a lot more discourse and debate than there actually was – it still inspired me to read more and delve deeper into the depths of philosophy, so not a completely wasted weekend, if you ask me.

I still regret greatly for not trying harder in high school to understand philosophy, had I studied even a couple of courses while I had the chance, would it be so much easier now to just pick up where I left – but nooo, I have to start right from the beginning now. I won’t let that bring me down, it’ll just take me longer this way (at least I have something to keep me busy). I love philosophising, but it bothers me when I can’t really talk about things with their real names, as I’m not so familiar with philosophical terms. Luckily I have a few friends with whom I can practice, so once I have really started educating myself, I should be well off with this goal. Truth be told, I haven’t been this excited since I started studying psychology in high school (which reminds me, I guess I should read more about psychology as well, to keep myself updated…)
My whole life I never really understood what I wanted to do, to be, to achieve. I would think of something great and set that as my goal, but down the road I would change my goal. Eventually I just gave up on choosing what I want to do with my life. This Semester of college (third semester) I signed up for 4 random classes that didn’t cover my basics; I just wanted to stay on my dad’s insurance. So I ended up taking; Mass Communications, First Aid and Safety, Public Speaking, and Intro to Philosophy. I have been reading my philosophy book so I could see what I got myself into before class start, and I must say very interesting stuff. There is really no right answer, except your own answer. That is what’s so great; a person can read about other philosophers and make their own conclusion or take their ideas and put it together to make it their own. I can’t wait for my class to start; I think I finally found my major. We will see.
I’ve read Chinese older phiosophy book “Zhuang Zi”. I feel that I don’t confuse much about things around me. My feeling is better than ever before. I also agree that people should have some believes to support their daily life.
Yesterday, while in the basment I found literally two huge boxes of books entiled “the greatest thinkers series” It is filled with tons of philosophers and their different works. I read some decartes and hume earlier today. It is so fasinating and I love how it all makes you think. There is so much more to learn.
