I had butterflies in my stomach just approaching the climbing wall. They had removed the bottom 6 foot holds to avoid anyone climbing the wall when the tower was unattended and when I was up one of those foot holds fell off. They quickly stuck it back up and I continued climbing. I soon found that the permanent foot holds were not nearly as large and easy to grasp as the large removable ones and they had been weathered too. About half way up I didn’t think I was going to be able to finish. I was having a tough time trying to find a spot for my next foot hold and I was scared as well. I have wanted to master a climbing wall for many years and I decided that I would continue until I reached the top. I found a few places for my feet and I relied on my arm strength to hold fast while I felt around for places for a foot at a time. Once I reached the top, I repelled down, but I paused half way to take a photo.
This is a picture captures how scared I was. 21 months ago
