I have been too tired from work the last few days to do it on my way home, so tomorrow is the day. It’s enough time to give them thirty days notice before they charge me again for October. If I do one thing tomorrow…..

I’ve been sick, so I haven’t been able to go in to the gym to cancel, but I’ve been reading online what a pain in the ass it is to cancel a 24-hour-fitness membership. And that telling you that you have to come in to cancel is a commonly used ploy with them. Apparently they ask you if it’s because you’re “not motivated” so that they can sell you more crap, like training sessions. Maybe I’ll tell them that I’ve decided to devote my life to eating doughnuts, smoking 2 packs a day and drinking liters upon liters of alcohol. I wonder if that will make them leave me alone.
The good news is that i found a cheaper gym by my work in case i decide to go back to gym land.

But they make it so difficult! The woman on the phone paused when I told her why I was calling, then finally said, “Well, you’re going to have to come in to do that. Only a manager can do that.”
What a joke. I cheerfully told her that I would be in to do just that. I’ll make sure to do it Monday on the way home from work.

Well I cancelled my Gym membership. They tried to make it hard for me by making me go in there to cancel it, but it didnt bother me. I went in, cancelled it, and now have a exercise bike coming tonight. Its all I went on at the gym anyway.
Turns out much cheaper, and i dont have to walk to get there.

I dont have the money, time but most of all energy to get my butt there, so I want to cancel it, and buy an exercise bike instead.

Bally’s was having “technical difficulties” with their phone system and I couldn’t get through for a week (and they were closed for new years). Finally, today I got through and have canceled my membership. I will no longer feel guilty for paying for it and not using it.

I changed my goal from “actually use my gym membership” to “cancel my gym membership”. In the 9 years that I’ve been paying for a membership I’ve probably only used it a total of 2 years. They raise the fee 10% every year. I’m wasting money and that’s not good…so I’m going to canel my membership and make part of my basement a gym.

Somewhere along the way I lost sight of why I had joined the gym in the first place. I find it really difficult to exercise outside in the heat of the Australian summer. So in order to improve my fitness I joined the gym at my university. But for a couple of months the weather in Brisbane has been perfect for running outdoors in the fresh air. It felt so great to get off the treadmill that made me feel like a hamster in a cage and be running free on the roads.
But I didn’t cancel my membership because I still felt like it could benefit my health. Except that I was only rarely using my membership. Yet somehow canceling my membership felt defeatist. Until this week when a reevaluation of my budget induced the reality that it was ridiculous of me to be spending valuable dollars for something I am not even using. It feels liberating to have finally cancelled those fortnightly payments.
