What an amazing feeling… Made two adorable blankies for local children in need… It was so easy to make and it didn’t even require a stitch of sewing!
It took me three years… But goal accomplished! 16 months ago

How I did it: I did a little online research about the needs and requirements, and found out which coordinator to report to. Then I just crocheted away in the evenings mostly. I ended up making one that would work for a teenager or big kid figuring most people probably think of doing them for babies, and not as much for older kids. The colors are gender-neutral, too. It's so soft and warm- I hope it warms the heart of the recipient. Read how I did it… 3 years ago
I brought this project to work, and I’m determined to complete this very soon! 3 years ago
I’m at approx. 70% done now. I hope to work on this every day until it’s finished… as cold weather approaches it makes me think of people that may need it. 3 years ago
I am now done with the green middle section, and started the red last night before going to bed. It’s going to look great!
It’s going to be hard to give up because (by coincidence) it matches my living room perfectly! 3 years ago
Next step: keeping working at it daily
Deadline: I’d love to have it finished and sent/delivered before the snow falls. (So I’ll aim for 11/8- a Saturday). 3 years ago
I’m probably about 40% done with this now. I keep working at it every day. Next time I’m at the craft store I’ll pick up the last skein. All in all it’ll cost me about $15 for this first one.
I can’t wait to begin a second one! 3 years ago
I went to get more of the same yarn, and there wasn’t any more of the same. So, I got some in a different color, and I will ‘bookend’ the cream color with variegated green. I think it’ll be pretty.
I also bought some baby blue variegated thin yarn and white of the same, so I can make some newborn afghans.
I’m probably about 33% of the way done with the first blanket. I’ll need to buy another variegated green, I’m guessing. 3 years ago
I am about 30% of the way done now. I’ll probably do some more tonight. I’m almost positive I’ll only need one more skein, too. 3 years ago
I am about 1/6 of the way done already. It is so pretty. I love that yarn! I wish I could know the joy that it brings to someone. I’ll just have to trust that I’m making a difference. My goal is to have it finished and submitted by the end of summer so that someone can get it before the cold weather hits- this blankie is sure to keep some child warm. 3 years ago
I found out from my coordinator that this yarn will work! So, I have several rows finished, and it is big… it’ll be great for a toddler or even a young child. I hope I don’t need to buy more yarn because it might be hard to find it again. We shall see… 3 years ago
I was just reading up on Project Linus, and it seems I’ve overlooked something… Boucle yarn is not machine washable, therefore I can’t use that blanket for a Project Linus blanket. :( I was so excited, too! Good thing I didn’t get really far on it and THEN find out.
I think I’ll continue working on that blanket (always good to have baby gifts on hand, eh? OR I could sell it on my Etsy site). We’ll see.
Maybe a small quilt is in order this time. Now I know to pay very careful attention to the details! 3 years ago
I am very excited about this. I bought some beautiful cream Boucle yarn (so beautiful and soft!)I started crocheting last night, and it’s going to be great when it’s done, I think!
I’m probably crazy for crocheting a warm blanket (that’ll eventually lay in my lap) during the summer, but I don’t care. 3 years ago
I finally heard back from the proper coordinator, and she was very nice and helpful. Now to decide what type of blanket to make first. 3 years ago
I guess I’ll just use the website’s general rules and guidelines and make a blanket then find a coordinator that could use it… I am very irritated that two chapter leaders did not respond to my e-mail… here I am a willing volunteer, and all they had to do was write back and say hi, and let me know what their specific needs are. Sheesh. 3 years ago
You’d think if you had a willing volunteer asking questions, and you’re a chapter leader that responding in a timely manner would be highly important, but I have contacted two so far (and in fairness, the second one was only about 1 1/2 hours ago) and have yet to get any response… I just want to make sure that what I am making will be needed and loved by someone. 3 years ago
I’m not done yet, but I’ve got the final yellow stripe going around. After that, it’s peach and then pink and then the white border. 3 years ago
Don’t limit yourself to crochet. Tied fleece blanket only require that you can use a pair of scissors and tie a simple knot. Like to sew? Try quilting. Not domestically inclined? Make a donation of cash or materials. 4 years ago
I chose a soft green because it could be used by either gender.
It’s Bernat brand; “Softee Baby” in Mint. 4 years ago
It has introduced me to some extraordinary opportunities. The first was NaNoWriMo. And now, Project Linus. I need to find my crochet needles. I will definitely make at least one blanket. There’s not a chapter in my immediate area so I’ll have to find the next nearest one. 4 years ago
So between myself and a few other helpers at work we sent about 30 blankets to Project Linus… 24 of which I made. Most people were more than willing to throw in a few bucks for the fleece and all I had to do was put in the elbow grease… It worked out well. I was so excited. Thanks to everyone. 4 years ago
My goal is to unite the people at my work to get 25 blankets to donate to Project Linus by Oct 27th… a bunch of people are on board, and others are donating money… I am so excited. . . 4 years ago
What a wonderful project.. Making a blanket for those children in need.. and hopefully learning a new trade :D
I would like to get a sewing machine so this might be my goal-oriented chance! 4 years ago
This poor blanket kind of got stuck on the back burner, what with my other projects going. Actually, it’s not too far from completion. 4 years ago
I have been trying to find some neutral color fleece to make a no-sew fleece baby blanket. I hope to do this goal by the end of the summer. 4 years ago
