How to move to Las Vegas
How I did it: My husband got a job, we researched apartments while out there doing interviews, and we drove across the country with all of our belongings and our dog.
Lessons & tips: Go to the desert as much as you can in the winter. Avoid the casinos. Sign up for houseseatslv.com and get free tickets to shows. Drive to all the neighboring sites--Joshua Tree, Valley of Fire, the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park. See things that the born and bred locals forget.

I moved to Las Vegas three years ago. I know the city well. When you come here, you have to ask why? Is it the excitement? Is it the new area? Henderson is for families, so would Summerlin. Single people might like anything around the strip, like paradise or spring valley. Rent is cheap (well I’m from L.A) It’s hot. It’s cold at night. And you can meet locals easily at PT’s, or any local bar. THis city is to be based on Networking. You have to go out there and find people. Also get your local ID quick! Because locals get drink deals (Blue Martini) if you work for a casino you get industry nights. Casinos to work for is easy but remember, your a number. I’m #24579 at mine. But even though times are tough, i still have a job.
I’ve lived in other places and moving to LV was the one move that I’ve had the most mixed feelings about. If you’re single and fairly young, I suppose it’s fun. But if you’re not then there are a lot of things against moving to LV. The schools are miserable. Only 1 nationally ranked high school in the area. Reno, a much smaller city, has many more. By the school district’s own data, only about 60% of students graduate from high school. Most of the jobs are in the service (ie. casino) sector. There are no large high tech firms headquartered here. The casinos really warp the economy. Yes they provide a large tax base, but they do not attract innovation. If you really want culture, you need to go to Los Angeles for museums and things like opera, or a symphony.
I really need to find an apartment close to work so I am able to walk there. Then be able to have time to move and settle. I would love to have all of my things shipped to me. Before the end of Oct.
Last year at almost exactly this time I decided to move to Vegas.. my grandfather lives there, and I have lived in Maine my whole life and always wanted to leave. I really want to go to California, but I would have family to stay with in Vegas. I ended up coming back after a month and regretting it ever since, so im thinking of going back. The thing is I dont know where to meet people, im almost 20, im not in school right now (but i do want to go to college soon).. and what kind of job coulod i get?? any advice?
Philip is bringing his 43things up to date.
I would still take Vegas in a heartbeat over the boring place I’m living now. However, if I want to really get serious about playing brick-and-mortar poker semipro, Southern California supposedly has better games. So I’m starting to think about moving there.
The housing and financial industries – I’ve had it here in OC!
I might be getting a Business Analyst position in LV, can anyone tell me what are the pro’s and con’s of Las Vegas?
I’m sure hot weather can be brutal but I love heat. Where are some good living spots? Whats the local scene about? Do the locals stay away from the strip?? Someone please fill me in, thanks!
I’m currently selling my Los Angeles Home so I can move to Las Vegas….
Looking at a few places to move too and looking at Condos and Townhouses also In Las Vegas for me and my son…

“Any suggestions on the actual moving process? A job and a place to live I already have covered. It's the actual moving across country that I am trying to plan. Should I get rid of everything and start fresh, try to u-haul stuff, or maybe use u-pack.”
