I got a promotion and a small raise at work, based on merit. So I am not in a different position, but I am in a better position.
I also have an interview this afternoon for a position that is the same paygrade (and possibly the same pay) as the position I hold now. If I get it, while I would be in a different position, I would not be in a better position.
Of course, if I get offered the job I am interviewing for today, while it would not be an immediate improvement, it would open the door for advancement whereas the job I have now really does not.

To land the marketing position, I am brushing up on my Marketing buzzwords because it doesn’t do any good to operate in a field and understand the work if you can’t talk the talk. Without the talk, you lack credibility.
I have also been revamping my wardrobe and look to one that is more sleek, professional, and corporate. (Whatever that means.)
And I am continuing to build my network at the company. Friday, I discovered I had a network asset I didn’t know. A guy I have known for a few years and with whom I ride the bus asked me how my interview went. I told him they had not conducted interviews yet, but that a friend had followed up with the hiring director and he told her he was looking for someone with more marketing experience than me. Doug looked at me and asked who the hiring director was. I told him and it turns out he works with the guy and offered to go and sing my praises because he believes I would be excellent in the position. Woo hoo! Didn’t even see that one coming.

Is to move from Tech Pubs over to Marketing. I applied for a position a couple of weeks ago—walked my resume over to the hiring director, along with a (if I may say so) very creative cover letter. Still haven’t been invited for an interview, but I am not giving up hope! Sometimes it takes them awhile to get around to interviewing.

Someone else got the position, but I am going to continue to apply. They say it can take as much as six months to a year to find a new position, so I am going to keep plugging away at this.

I really need to find the next step and take it. First of all, it is the smart thing to do economically. Our salaries here have been frozen for the past five years and the only way to get a pay increase is to move.
But mainly, it’s a smart thing professionally. I feel myself getting a little stale and dessicated where I am. I am ready for new frontiers.
I had an interview this morning. My eighth so far this year. So hopefully this will be accomplished soon.
