raised to be polite, not to suffer bullshit Life is too short to make just one decision

The spring of '09 has come and gone.... 2 weeks ago

.... and we’re still Jersey residents. But that’s okay.

We’re spending our honeymoon in Burlington, since we want to check out the area and make sure that our initial reaction of “This feels like home!” was right. We’ve been devouring travel guides, talking to locals and are just way too excited about all the Green Mountain State has to offer. I can’t wait to spend 10 days overlooking Lake Champlain, and I DEFINITELY can’t wait until we buy a home in Vermont.

I am moving to Brattleboro 22 months ago

Leaving Providence, RI and the rat race for some land, and stuff to do. It’s cold in RI in the winter, but there’s nothing to do. In Vermont there’s skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling,.... in the summer there’s hiking, swimming holes….. So don’t let people tell you Vermont is Boring. Brattleboro used to be a hippie commune, but now it’s a great liberal organic town, with a great farmer’s market and very down to earth people. Burlington is great, but getting very corporate and commercialized, not to mention high property values. Either way, you can’t lose!

eventual relocation 22 months ago

since we’re both rather tired of being jersey residents, and because we both fell in love with burlington over the summer, we’re planning on moving to vermont in the spring of 2009.

we have a good chunk of change ready as a down payment on a house, so that’s one less thing to worry about.

what we don’t have, however, is an idea of where exactly we’d like to live, what kind of house we’d like to have (or will be able to afford) and vermont-based jobs.

when we head up to new england in the summer, we’re definitely spending a day looking at houses and getting more of an idea of where we’d like to live and what we can afford.

i’ve started doing a little bit of reasearch into vermont real estate and what kind of print media publications the state offers so we’ll have some idea of what we’re getting into.

Vermont!?! 22 months ago

I don’t have a power base in Vermont.

bibliomane oommmmmmmmmm

I lived in Vermont for five years 2 years ago

in my early twenties and also spent a bunch of time there in high school. It is beautiful, but I recommend thinking carefully about location. Some towns are quite touristy without much going on in terms of arts & culture. If I go back, I would try to get closer to Burlington.

Boring? NO..PEACEFUL! 2 years ago

A lot of entries on here say that its boring in Vermont, not so.. Its a different pace, but theres is a lot more to do there than a lot of places. stay in the city and let us enjoy it there!

So not worth it..... 3 years ago

unless you are a college kid, or are starting/have a family. It is so boring here, Burlington is the only lively place. Even then, it gets boring there. But, as long as you move to the northern end it’s okay because Canada is close, or if you move here for college it can be fun. It is only mid October, and it has already snowed twice.

loonlaugh is slowly working through the list.

So far so good!! 3 years ago

We’ll see about this “winter” later.

I SO want to do this! 3 years ago

I so want to move to Vermont, but have to wait three years! In the meantime, I’m stuck in NC which is one of the most backwoods crazy states I’ve ever been to. LET ME OUT!!!

Great place for certain people 3 years ago

I lived in VT for a total of about 12 years, around Burlington. I like it now (I didn’t when I was growing up). If you’re outdoorsy it’s the absolute best b/c you have both mountains and water closeby. I suppose it isn’t the most exciting place but if you want excitement Montreal is only 1.5 hrs away. If you like liberal politics, volunteerism, etc. Burlington is good too.
