Threw out a ridiculous amount of stuff! Didn’t feel any need to go to a garage sale or eBay or anything (no I don’t just want to pass the problem on to someone else). It was great! I now realize that stuff by default has negative value so it’s almost always good to get rid of it. Now to actually keep my room clean. :-)
How to throw out junk
How I did it: Just keep reminding yourself that it is junk, that's why you want to throw it out. The feeling of throwing it out is much better than any feeling you could ever have about it being useful someday! I treated myself to a copy of Ideal Home magazine to remind myself how much better a room looks without lots of trash in it!
Lessons & tips: If something is irreplaceable, throw it away 'on trial' and see if you still want it a couple of days later. If it is something that can easily be acquired again or that accumulates anyway, such as scrap paper, glossy mags, or information that you could easily look up on the internet, then go for it!
Allow yourself a keepsake box. I use a pretty white storage box and now it's not even half full.
I also have one large storage box under my bed for crafts items, and I tell myself that I can fill this up but no more than that, and it works fine.

Yesterday I filled one garbage bag with stuff from my craft room, which has been a collection point for all the stuff we haven’t found a home for yet in our house. I know I should throw out a lot more stuff but I have a problem parting with things that I think I may use someday or I have some emotional attachment to.
