BambooSpirit is trying to find at least 43 things I WANT to do in my life!

Sunday Class 5 days ago

I went for a Sunday yoga class yesterday and liked it very much. But I’m not sure whether I want to stay there long term. Drop in classes are expensive and if you want the cheaper rates you have to sign up for membership for at least 6 months so I don’t know.

Yes, I enjoyed it. But I think my goal is really to practice yoga regular at home or somewhere cheaper.

Also this place was doing ‘hot b yoga’ which has many benefits they were telling me about but in my head I thought doing yoga was going back to basics (just your body and movements) and simplicity (No equipment and machines) and calm (like meditation and stretching) so I don’t know about driving to a class once a week that is powered by room heating equipment (which is what makes classes so expensive they said) and the teacher shouting instructions. She was very good, not contradicting that, but I was almost scared of her.

Maybe I will try a different place next week.

How to tell when I've done this thing? 1 week ago

I read somewhere that you have to do a thing 28 times for it to become a habit. I assume that means 28 days in succession but I can’t see myself doing that.

So I’ll say I’ve managed to ‘practice yoga regularly’ when I have done 30 days of 30 min yoga practice (targeting 30 min at home, an hour in class, but at least 15 minutes in order to ‘count’)—

—with no more than one day off in between or I have to start over!

Used to.. 1 week ago

When i was in school we had Yoga classes early morning. It not only made me a achieve my goals but made me happier and fitter. But i have not been doing it for more than 9 years now. Need to get the habit going again.

started up class again 2 weeks ago

... after a 6 month hiatus due to various injuries and a bunch of ‘life drama’, I am back in class again!

i do miss yoga 3 weeks ago

a lot! and trying to practise it on my own hasn’t been going very well, i guess i don’t have the self-discipline it requires yet. so i need to go back to a yoga class, i’ve already found a really nice place so as soon as i get some money, i will join it.

being happier, healthier and more at peace with myself 1 month ago

I want to practice yoga regularly to accomplish all three things in the title. I want to be a healthier person so I can teach my kids to be healthier. I want to be a happier person because its been a really long time since I’ve been happy… so long I almost don’t remember what it is like to be happy. I want to create peace with in myself because my mind never seems to stop lately. Constant stressful thoughts have taken over and its time to make it STOP!

strong quads 1 month ago

My yoga teacher said that my quadriceps are too strong to hold my legs straight. I should be conscious about straightening my legs especially during the downward dog.

Never attempt the pendulum motion for the backbends alone. It will make you dizzy!

Practice more on the jumpbacks…

Also, the closing sequences require longer breaths. 25 for shoulder stand, 10 for the rest.

I stayed for 20 breaths for the headstand and was able to do the half form. Yay!

My practice is for the victims of Ondoy. Hope I could help some more.

Learned some tidbits from the John Scott class 1 month ago

Ok… my job made it seem impossible for me to attend the classes. Or maybe I’m just making an excuse? Whatever are my reasons, it does not make my yoga practice not a serious workout. I will remember what my teacher told me: I will get better in time. I can do most difficult poses. I just have to practice.

I learned that for Suryanamaskar A, my hands should not be stiff and I should be able to sweep it like a wing. With timed breathing, I place my hands infront of my feet and put weight on them. Then raise my heart, look ahead. Then still putting weight on the hands, I tuck my chin in, arch my back and with a wave-like movement, I position into downward dog.

To go back to standing position, I should bend my knees, tiptoe and hop back near my hands. Reverse the movement.

Prasarita C has a different approach. Instead of flexing the fingers outward, I have to flex it inwards. It’s a lot harder and kind of not ergonomic.

After my Navasana, my teacher made me do a handstand! It felt weird but I was ecstatic.

My Kurmasana is still problematic. My hamstrings are still tight. My teacher made me practice an opening for it (open legs, knees bent, fold forward). Chin on the floor.

The Urdhva Dhanurasana and the practice of dropbacks—I was taught to spread my feet on the mat, reach my hands up and let them fall at the top of the mat. Again, put weight on it. Then, like a pendulum, on an inhale, I should swing my hands up as I bend my knees. For the exhale, I should be able to arch back and let my hands fall on the mat. Bend the knees upon inhalation and throw my upper body/arms back up.

Oh yeah, I was taught the jump backs. I should put weight on my hands, stick my hips up (on tip toes) and should be able to do a reverse jump through. It made a lot of sense!

Note: I will not use sticky soap before yoga. I can’t do the Gharba Pindasana well even if I spray a lot of water.

Hard to commit to a class 3 months ago

I was good at going to the yoga class at my local gym, but have moved recently and it’s hard getting to a class. I’m considering getting a DVD and following it. I’d love to be good enough to lead a class!
