I went to my parents’ last weekend, and my mom and I went hiking at a place called Hite’s Cove. The trail is on a bluff over the Merced River, between Mariposa and Yosemite on Highway 140, for anyone familiar with the area. The wildflowers are gorgeous, but haven’t peaked yet. The poppies are already blanketing the hill, I think it will be absolutely dense with them shortly. Maybe another week or two? There were also baby blue eyes, black eyed susans, flowering thistles, buttercups, shooting stars (I love shooting stars, they look like a magical flower). I guess they peaked about three weeks before now, last year, but they are slow this year because of the incredible amount of rain we’ve been getting. I am so, so ready for springtime and sunshine! I did learn several new wildflowers while we were there, as well as a couple of new birds. I also learned that my dog would happily drown herself in a raging river if she could, so no off leash time at Hite’s Cove!
