I played this with our guide from a bridge on a side stream flowing into the Kali Gandaki River, Annapurna Circuit, Nepal. The photo shows myself and Raj dropping our sticks on the upstream side of the bridge. Unfortunately most of Raj is obscured! This is a great activity for relaxing when having a break from carrying the back pack.

Map Guy in TX is ready for the weekend
Anytime we came across running water on our walks we would stop and play Pooh sticks.
When we lived by the canal, we would walk up to the bridge and play it all the time.
I think we need to play again.
Pay no attention to the bad losers. My stick came first, although Roxi then tried to claim it as her own. Speedy came a close second, with Roxi not far behind. As for Josh & Benji, we never even saw their sticks again. I actually think Josh’s sank!
Josh did invent a new game though called poo leaves, so well done to him.
Benji is not looking forward to work tomorrow
Roxi is the bestest Pooh Stick player around. Be very careful gambling on the sticks with her.
I beat all the boys and everyone beat Cookie., he wasn’t a great Pooh Stick player.
cranberrygoddess is very very tired
Oh wow, so much fun, so many memories. The aim of the game is to throw a stick into the river at the same time as someone else, and see who’s stick gets to a certain point (say the next bridge) first. It sounds so simple, but when you’re 6 years old it’s the most wonderful thing you could ever do.
This was back in the days when Winnie the Pooh was an english book by A. A. Milne, a friend of christopher robin, and not a disney product.
I like to play pooh sticks in my airlock. Admittedly the lack of a stream or bridge can be somewhat hindersome, but I get by. A lot of fun had nonetheless…
