Remember way back when… when you would stumble into your parents room , (a trail of orange juice following behind you on the white carpet), head held high, proudly holding your tray of goods you so carefully made , and the look on your parents face’s when they saw what you had made them this time. ...I loved to experiment in the kitchen , and held no fear of mixing any two ingredients together, sometimes it was burnt toast with peanut butter and mustard , with a side of freshly fried lettuce,... other times it was ” Cheerio sandwiches” , or “Banana and egg Omelets”. I no longer bring my parents breakfast in bed , ( lucky for them ), and though my cooking skills have greatly increased , I still have never lost my sense of adventure when it comes to combining different ingredients , but these days I tend only to test them solely on myself…. that and sometimes the dog….
How to make breakfast in bed for your parents
How I did it: I did this when I was maybe 7 or 8 for my mom for mother's day. I made her scrambled eggs, toast with jam, and dad helped by making coffee. Mom was surprised and it really made her smile...until she took a bite of the toast...My sister and I had thought it would be really special to make the jam ourselves. We had a raspberry bush in our backyard, so we had just picked a bunch of raspberries, mashed them up, and added a bit of sugar. Mom put on a good face at the time, but told us years later that the jam was reallllyyy bitter!
Lessons & tips: Don't make anything you've never cooked before; go with what you're good at. ;-)
