first 5K race today. It went well. I came in 5th for my age group and 33rd overall. Not bad! I’m already planning for my next race.
Andrea409 is changing things around.
I used to run at least 3-5 miles nearly everyday, before other things in life took priority. I’m not sure if I’d even be able to do a 5-k at this point. But I really want to get back into it. =)

of this goal. In that I am no way near ready to sign up for a marathon yet! I’m beginning to introduce running to my workout and I am hoping to do a 10k in a few months time with an aim to do my first marathon in 2011.
I’ve had the idea for years as my Mother ran marathon’s back in the 70’s and loved it. Then after years of seeing people run various marathons on TV I got my final inspiration seeing coverage of the London Marathon this year.
so i don’t believe i’m prepared for the lone gull 10k this month. however, although i am not doing the ymca 10k either, i have already signed up for one in boston next month, and it’s a women’s only race which should be a lot of fun.
also, the community college i’m currently attending has a great wellness center that i’ve been using four days a week to train. i don’t even need my old expensive gym membership with this place, plus the cost is included in the tuition. life is good. =] time to start cracking down!
mjonhunt is cleaning up my mess and looking ahead.
I am now locked in. I registered for the Philadelphia marathon on Nov 22. My goal will be to run it in 3 hrs and 15 minutes. If I manage that, then I can qualify to run in the Boston marathon. That would be my ultimate goal.
I’ve just never put in the time to train for one. I really want to while I’m still in shape from the police academy.
A lot of things coming together at once: afraid of getting older and not achieving the one thing that I always thought I really ought to do, and stay healthy. I thought that this way, I would have a goal, get fit, stay healthy and do something so far out of my comfort zone (while not being actually daft like Bungee Jumping) that I have to stretch myself. Of course, the first thing is to get up early enough to train….
Did the Lundgren 5K this morning with my dad. It was pretty laid back I suppose; the times haven’t been posted yet but I’m quite sure I went a lot slower than I did last Sunday at the triathlon. However, I considered this morning my kickoff to some hardcore marathon training for this coming year. Baystate Marathon, here I come!
today i got back from the amica niantic bay triathlon in connecticut. i did it as a relay with my boyfriend and his mom, and i was the one to do the running portion. it was only 3.4 miles, but that was the first time i have ever been in a racing atmosphere. and that definitely made a difference being in that atmosphere, because i ended up running 8.5 minute miles rather than the usual 10 minutes i do. it was great to understand how everything works, with the transition areas and different waves of swimmers and such. i may end up doing a triathlon like this again before i start training for my marathon. however, i decided to make a tentative checklist for myself to work my way up to a marathon, which may or may not include a triathlon somewhere:
Lundgren 5K: 15 Aug
Lone Gull 10K: 20 Sep
Dartmouth YMCA 10K: 17 Oct
Heartbreak Hill Half Marathon: May 2010
Baystate Marathon: Oct 2010
anyone have any ideas for a triathlon in new england to sneak into that calendar anywhere?
