It can be difficult at times, but it’s worth it. I love having my afro caressed and stroked. I love seeing it and the sheer power of it that causes men and women to stare. There’s so much power in the fro!

Just take time to learn how to take care of your fro and your natural hair, and the two of you will always have a decent relationship.

PS You may find great support at nappturality.com, especially in the forums.

I’m black and I already have a TON of hair, but I want to make it an afro. I’m not confident enough to do it yet. I’ve began wearing it natural though (not straight, flat-ironed, or relaxed). I want one like Erykah Badu had, it definately made a statement. My parents don’t think it’s such a good idea, they’re stuck in that “straight hair means good hair” trip. I have what blacks and latinos call “good hair” and my parents are afraid that if I wear it REALLY natural, people won’t know I have good hair. If you’re of a dark ethnicity you probably know what I mean. My reason for having one though is to make a statement to my own people of whom the majority believe that wearing our hair “natural” means it’s “bad” hair, or you’re too lazy to go to the salon and get your hair done. I love my hair natural and I’m damned proud of it and they should be too. I might even do dreads next year, who knows!
