Young person ageist against old fart (ME!) 3 years ago

I was recently told at work that I shouldn’t be doing ‘it’ at my age 59! Help, whats left…

I am on the brink of not buying any magazines 3 years ago

tough for me..because I really love magazines.

I keep getting the conflicting reports about how I am supposed to be really happy to be where I am age-wise and yet I also see how I am supposed to be smooth as a 20 year old. How can I be both things? Well, I guess I could take out a couple loans to make a plastic surgeon a little wealthier. OR..here is a novel idea, why don’t I go ahead and….
    NOT!

I am no longer considered young 3 years ago

and with any luck..you’ll be able to say the same one day.

Youth is very nice—but so is every stage of life. It is very weird that Western Society looks upon getting older as a comical crime of some sort. Other cultures know that our physical lives do indeed end but that youth and growing older is a natural circle. It’s clear that Westerners think that aging is nearing death and thereby disgusting and/or horrible. That is why we are a country full of rest homes that shut our elders away, so we can’t see them.

When I was younger..I too thought that being young was “special”. I now realize that each stage of our ongoing life is special.

Whenever I hear people talk about being “old” I am going to start looking beyond my own wrinkles and anyone else’s and I am going to challenge whether or not one IS really “old”. Ridiculous. Just when we are hitting our stride people send us comedy cards about how we are “over the hill”. I’m not going to be the one sending those types of cards.

It is just plain nuts to put people out to pasture because they have lived and don’t look like they are 20 anymore. Ageism is making people feel useless and inferior. I won’t be a part of it anymore.
